American Idol's Final Two Revealed!

It’s been a long road on American Idol for Danny Gokey, Kris Allen and Adam Lambert, and now the end is in sight. Last night the Final Two were selected during the live results show.

Danny Gokey, whose long-running success on American Idol was undercut by the constant bittersweet reminder that his young wife had died shortly before he auditioned, was the one sent home Wednesday night..

Danny was, actually, a much more consistent performer than Kris Allen, who now advances along with Adam Lambert. Danny had never even been in the bottom three. But Kris was the first one sent to safety Wednesday, three minutes before the end of the hour. His performance of Kanye West’s “Heartless” Tuesday night must have given him a solid boost in the voting.

Then it was Adam’s turn to get good news. He has been as consistent as Danny, only at a much more dynamic level.

So, we now head into the final week with a match up of two singers who are easily distinguishable from each other and talented in very different ways. Adam is an almost purely theatrical performer. Kris is more in the line of a subdued folk-rock-pop singers.

Will this be a tight contest? Could be. But ultimately, in my opinion, there is not competition as Adam is definitely a stronger singer and performer than Kris, but Kris has got a great following from their younger audience.

At the start of last night's show, Ryan announced that, of 88 million votes cast, not much more than a million separated the top two. Simon said the finale could be “a big ding-dong,” by which he meant a fierce competition and exciting.

During last night's show, they shared with us the Top 3's hometown visits (Danny to Milwaukee, Kris to Conway, Arkansas, and Adam to San Diego), which were quite emotional. Plus season 6 winner Jordin Sparks performed her new single, “Battlefield.” She looked amazing with her slimmer look and beautiful face. Katy Perry also performed her latest hit "Waking Up in Vegas".

After the broadcast, a coin toss determined the order of performances for next week’s finale. Kris won the toss — and Adam will sing first.

Watch the two part season finale of American Idol 8 next Tuesday and Wednesday at 8:00 pm (ET). Wednesday's show will be a two-hour extravaganza.
