Paula: Fourth American Idol Judge "Doesn't Work"

Don't get her wrong: Paula Abdul loves, just loves, new American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi. But she also thinks that DioGuardi is pretty much ruining the show.

At least that's what she seems to be saying in an interview with OK! magazine hitting newsstands March 9th. As reported by the New York Post, Paula dishes on just why she thinks the extra judge may be one judge too many.

Paula said: "Kara and I have known each other for years and we get along great. But we tried four judges before and it doesn't work."

American Idol did indeed have four judges at one point. In the show's second season, HOT 97 DJ Angie Martinez signed on to serve as a judge. However, before the season began taping, Martinez suffered a crisis of conscience and said she couldn't handle crushing young people's dreams and backed out. (The other three judges were apparently okay with dream-crushing duty.)

So why does four judges not work?

Says Abdul "It takes up so much time for each of us to give our opinion that it slows down the pace of the show."

Abdul may be willing to fix the problem herself. When asked if she planned to continue judging the pop star competition, she ducked the question, replying "It is the last season of my contract, and I have so many other things I want to do."
