American Idol: Live Performance Show - Week #1

Well the competition has finally gone "live". After several weeks of silly auditions and two weeks of Hollywood "week", the competition has finally stated.

American Idol has made a few changes on it's 8th season. We now have 36 contestants competing for the Top 12 spots. They have been randomly divided into three separate groups which will compete during the next three weeks for three spots in the final 12. The top female and top male, along with the next highest in score will go on to the Top 12.

Then in three weeks, American Idol resurrects the "wild card" competition where the judges will select the final three contestants to complete the Top 12.

Now here's a recap of this weeks live performance show.

From the start, the guys have surpassed the girls with incredible performances. Most of the girls sounded like they were performing during a "suicide" karaoke competition. The only exceptions were Alexis Grace and (believe it or not) Tatiana Nicole del Toro.

My top two favorites this week are:

Danny Gokey who sang a great rendition of Mariah Carey's "Hero". Danny has been my personal favorite from the start and I still feel like he is the one to beat!

My other Top 2 favorite this week is a relatively unknown, Ricky Braddy, who has not been featured during the early part of this competition. His song choice was Leon Russell's "A Song for You."

My selections for the bottom two this week are:

Jackie Tohn

Steve Wright

I will be glued to my television Wednesday night to see who will be the Top 3 choices. Watch American Idol on FOX this Wednesday at 8:00 pm, Eastern Time for the results show.
