Virgin America Launches Wi-Fi Service

Virgin America has announced the launch of their in-flight Wi-Fi service on Monday.

The launch is a beta test that is going to last for a period of one week.

The goal is for it to launch commercially on December 1st after they work out all of the bugs and such.

This is a very aggressive move for Virgin America as they are trying to garner more passengers from other airlines.

The system being used comes from Aircell and will be on all Virgin America planes by the middle of 2009.

Those who take part in the beta test with Virgin America will be able to use it for free.

Boyzone Slammed for Gay Music Video

Irish pop group Boyzone have been criticised for featurung a gay couple in their new music video.

The promo for the band’s single "Better" features singer Stephen Gately, who is gay, getting up close with a male actor. And according to Northern Ireland newspaper, the Dromore Leader, an Irish minister has now slammed the clip - claiming it sends a "deadly message to young people.”

Reverend David McCullough, minister of Dromore Reformed Presbyterian Church in Northern Ireland, tells the publication, “This video, that will be watched by millions, is sending out a deadly message to young people. It is stating that homosexuality is simply another norm. The video very cleverly interweaves softly lighted, black and white images of heterosexual couples with a homosexual couple. “The message is plain and the often repeated drum beating of the homosexual lobby that says that homosexuality is a normal lifestyle.”

According to a recent Billboard.com article, No Doubt are returning to touring in 2009 and will also be working on new material.

The group made the announcement via an instant message transcript posted on their official Web site, but did not provide specific details. "I have cabin fever. Maybe we should play some shows or something," guitarist Tom Dumont wrote.

Gwen Stefani answered, "I think we should go out now. I don't think we should wait. Pack up the babies and get a bunch of nannies. So fun! Would be so inspiring to get out there and play all those songs again."

Michael Jackson has Become a Muslim

Michael Jackson has become a Muslim and changed his name to Mikaeel.

The music superstar, 50, donned Islamic garb to pledge allegiance to the Koran in a ceremony at a pal’s mansion in Los Angeles, UK's newspaper "The Sun" revealed.


Jackson sat on the floor wearing a tiny hat after an Imam was summoned to officiate, days before the singer is due to appear at London’s High Court where he is being sued by an Arab sheik.

A source told how Jackson, brought up as a Jehovah’s Witness, decided to convert as he used a studio at the home of his chum to record a new album.


The star, whose hits include "The Way You Make Me Feel", was spotted looking “a bit down” by a producer and a songwriter who had both embraced Islam. The source said: “They began talking to him about their beliefs, and how they thought they had become better people after they converted. Michael soon began warming to the idea.

“An Imam was summoned from the mosque and Michael went through the shahada, which is the Muslim declaration of belief.” Mikaeel is the name of one of Allah’s angels. “Jackson rejected an alternative name, Mustafa — meaning “the chosen one”.

British singer Yousef Islam, who was called Cat Stevens until he famously converted, turned up to help Michael celebrate.

It was his pals David Wharnsby, a Canadian songwriter, and producer Phillip Bubal who counselled Jackson. The pair’s new names are Dawud Wharnsby Ali and Idris Phillips.


Jackson now prays to Mecca after the ceremony at the Hollywood Hills home of Toto keyboard player Steve Porcaro, 51, who composed music on the singer’s Thriller album.

Michael, who rarely ventures out without a mask, is due to give evidence on Monday in a $10 million lawsuit brought by Prince Abdulla Al-Khalif of Bahrain. The sheik claims he bankrolled the singer’s lavish lifestyle in exchange for an exclusive recording contract. The billionaire sent songs for him to record but claims he was blanked. He told the court yesterday: “Many times he confirmed to me he would pay me back.”

Hugh Jackman: "My Wife Hates Gay Rumors"

Hugh Jackman has revealed that his wife hates hearing rumors that he is gay.

The actor, who was this week named the sexiest man alive by People magazine, said wife Deborra-Lee Furness often has to assure people that her husband is straight.

"She said the most infuriating times would be in the bathroom because all she'd hear is: 'Is he or isn't he gay?' 'I don't know, he's married'. 'Oh, who cares? I'm sure he's gay'," he told People.

"She used to call out from the stall: 'He's not gay. I'm telling you he's not.' And there would be silence until someone said: 'I think that's his wife.'"

Nicollette Sheridan's New Man: David Spade!

Nicollette Sheridan had a special guest at her party to ring in turning 45 – a possible new beau in David Spade.

Celebrating her birthday at new L.A. hot spot Luau with Desperate Housewives costars Felicity Huffman, onscreen husband Neal McDonough and Kyle MacLachlan, the newly single Sheridan at first played it coy with her man of the evening.

"They arrived separately and even started dinner at different booths," says an onlooker. It was a familiar scene: The duo were spotted a couple of weeks ago at the restaurant's opening, where they spent the night in deep conversation. This time, though, things got a little more intimate.

"They cuddled and kissed," says an onlooker. "They were full-on making out in a booth."

Decked out in a sequined gold frock, the birthday girl sipped on lychee martinis throughout the night and giddily enjoyed a specialty cake that read "Happy Birthday Princessa."

While a source insists the two aren't dating, the onlooker said that "David winked at her and stood by her side while she blew out the candles on her cake."

How Madonna Is Coping with Her Split

Madonna is doing her best to get through her split from husband Guy Ritchie – with a little help from ex-husband Sean Penn, according to a source close to the singer.

"It's a sad situation, but she's not heartbroken," says the source, who saw the 50-year-old icon hours before a London court granted the couple a preliminary "quickie divorce" on Friday. "She's handling it well."

Madonna, who rocked Philadelphia as part of her Sticky and Sweet tour on Thursday, is focusing on her work and her children to keep her mind off the end of her nearly eight-year marriage to Ritchie, says the source. "She's got a very busy life."

Also helping her through the tough time is her ex-husband. The singer and Penn were spotted having drinks at the Greenwich Hotel in Manhattan on Wednesday night. "They have a nice rapport," says the source. "There's nothing romantic there. They're just good friends."

Target Pushes Aggressive Price Cuts

Target wants to be sure it gets your holiday business this year. The retail giant has seen its profits take a nosedive this year, as shoppers cut back to just the essentials. Nearly half the store's revenue comes from non-essentials, though, like fashion and trendy housewares. To be sure they move items like this over the next month, Target will be offering some serious bargains.

The company says that it will match prices with its chief rival, Wal-Mart, in local markets, and will offer daily rotating value items on its website, while aggressively cutting prices on popular national brands. Though Target has cut prices around the holidays in previous years, Chief Executive Gregg Steinhafel says the company is really ramping up its promotions for 2008, and expects to be the price leader on many gift items.

This makes Target very attractive for holiday shoppers this year. I remember doing most of my shopping there last year anyway, and I saved myself 10% extra by opening the Target credit card on the day I shopped for my friends and family. Then I paid it off and closed the account. If you can exercise discipline, there's no reason not to go for the in-store credit card offers, especially if you can take 10 or more percent off a large purchase. With the Target credit card profits dropping sharply recently, I wouldn't be surprised to see the store offer even better incentives to qualified applicants.

You should not forget to check the website for those rotating value items, too.

Japanese Man Living in Mexico City Airport

A Japanese man named Hiroshi Nohara has decided to take full advantage of his tourist's visa in Mexico City and has moved into the airport. He's been living there for two months, and the initial avoidance from the locals has recently turned into a curiosity.

Nohara, who can't explain why he decided to live in the city airport, has been getting by on free donations from local fast food stands and kind visitors. Apparently he was gaining so much notiriety with the local media that he's even being sponsored by a few of the stands who give him free hats and shirts to wear. Now, as a tourist attraction in and of himself, people stop by the airport just to take their picture with him.

Meanwhile, Mexican officials can't do anything to remove him from the airport as it's a 24/7 facility and technically he's there legally. His tourist visa runs up in March.

Until then, make sure you stop by on your connection to Acapulco and get your photo taken with Mr. Nohara. It's a limited edition engagement so your photo will be worth millions on Ebay someday

Carrie Fisher Reveals Her "Dark Side"

Actress Carrie Fisher reveals in her new book 'Wishful Drinking' that life as Debbie Reynolds' daughter was anything but ordinary. Fisher, most known as her role as Princess Leia in the 'Star Wars' trilogy, reveals the dirty details of her life including her mother's suggestion that Fisher have a baby with her stepfather.

The book is based off her one-woman, autobiographical show. Fisher, 52, takes readers into her life, exposing the truth about her drug addiction, her bipolar disorder and all her failed relationships.

Fisher reveals she sought help for her depression, but didn't trust any of the doctors' suggested treatments. Finally, at age 28, she was diagnosed with manic depression after overdosing on pills.

The root of her book though is about the constant competition for her mother's attention, which it seems she still hasn't found.

"My parents had this incredibly vital relationship with an audience, like with muscle and blood. This was the main competition I had for my parents' attention, an audience. People like you. You know who you are," she writes. "Even this book is a pathetic bid for the attention I lacked as a newborn."

Recalling her younger days, Fisher talks about having to deal with her mother's fame. "It was complicated to go out in public with my mother because she was very famous. She belonged to the world... It was like being in a parade. In a way, my mother was an event... So it was not like having private time with Mom. And I really didn't like sharing her. It seemed almost unsanitary," she writes.

People Magazine (P): You turned 40 Oct. 12 and now you're the Sexiest Man Alive. What was your wife's response?

Hugh (H): God bless her, she said, "I could have told them that years ago!" And the she said, "Obviously, Brad wasn't available this year." And I said, "That was a joke, right?"

P: Your marriage is a success story.
H: In my early 20s, I didn't have a regular girlfriend. I was single and really happy about it. And then when I was 26, I met Deb on [the Australian TV show] Correlli. She was my leading lady. It was just undeniable. I started planning to propose to her at about three months. We are happy. Deb and my kids have been the best things that have ever happened to me, without a doubt.

P: How do you keep the passion alive?
H: It's easy with my wife. She loves the idea of me coming home in costume because it makes her feel like she's having an affair in a good way. When we met, I was cast as a prisoner with tattoos and she'd say, "Don't take your tattoos off tonight!" and I'd be like, "All right!" But what works best with her is the stockbroker look. P: Are you self-conscious about any body part?
H: When I was younger, I had chicken legs. My nickname was Sticks.

A Macho Character from "The Simpsons" is Outed

Long-running FOX TV comedy show The Simpsons has revealed that the character of Duffman is gay. The revelation comes in the latest episode of the program, now in its 20th series.

The episode, titled "Sweet Conclusions" follows Homer as he sets up a business breaking up with people on behalf of his clients.

The episode marks the return of two gay men that Homer once shared a flat with during a short break, Grady and Julio. "When Grady calls Homer to book his breakup services, he mentions that he's dating someone new just as Duffman steps out of the shower and playfully snaps his towel at Grady," reports AfterElton.com

"Considering how Duffman parodies the way beer marketing is often drenched in machismo, seeing him in a relationship with Grady strikes me as very subversive."

Duffman is a spokesperson for Duff beer, and his catchphrase "Ooh Yeah!" is a favourite with fans. The character is based on Budweiser's former mascot Bud Man.

The Simpsons has sympathetically tackled gay marriage in an episode that revealed that Marge Simpson's sister Patty is a lesbian.

The character of Waylon Smithers has been a source of much comedy over the years, as he is clearly gay and in love with his boss, evil nuclear plant owner Montgomery Burns.

However, the latest Halloween special angered the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) after school bully Nelson Muntz used the phrase "that's so gay" to character Milhouse Van Houten. GLSEN wants the show's producers to promise not to use the phrase again.

"Nelson's use of 'that's so gay' in a negative way is not surprising considering that 90% of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth say they hear the term used this way frequently or often at school." the group said.

It's time to get to know Eddie Cibrian, who recently played the role of Coach Diaz (Hilda's newest love interest) on Ugly Betty.

1. Eddie is of Cuban descent.

Disgraced Pastor Ted Haggard Claims He Was Abused as a Child

Ted Haggard, the former pastor of an evangelical super church who was forced to resign after revelations of a three-year affair with a male prostitute, has said he sexually abused as a seven-year-old.

Colorado's New Life Church's founder also resigned as president of the National Association of Evangelicals in 2006 after it emerged that he had been involved in a sexual relationship with Mike Jones and had bought and taken methamphetamines with male prostitutes.

Mr Jones, 50, claims that Mr Haggard, a vocal opponent of gay marriage, was a monthly client for three years.

In an apology to the church, Mr Haggard urged members to forgive and thank Mr Jones for exposing deceit.

"There I was, 50 years old, a conservative Republican, loving the word of God, an evangelical, born-again, spirit-filled, charismatic, all those things," Mr Haggard said in a tape released online.

"But some of the things that were buried in the depths of the sea from when I was in the second grade started to rage in my heart and mind."

In the tape he admitted he had "sinned" but said some of the allegations against him had been exaggerated.

Earlier this year Mr Jones was offered $500,000 to appear on the FOX reality series Moment of Truth, where contestants take a lie detector test.

He failed a previous test, but the administrator said he doubted the its validity given Mr Jones' stress and lack of sleep.

Mr Jones had been working as a masseuse when his alleged relationship with Haggard began.

At the time, Mr Jones said the married pastor told him his fantasy was "to have sex with about 6 young college guys ranging from 18 to 22 in age."

He entered three weeks of reparative therapy and claimed to have been cured of his homosexual leanings.

In February 2007, in an interview in the Denver Post, one of the four pastors who have been giving Haggard the intensive course of counselling said:

"He is completely heterosexual. That is something he discovered.

"It was the acting-out situations where things took place. It wasn't a constant thing."

Jesse Metcalfe Briefly Hospitalized After Falling from Balcony in Monaco

Jesse Metcalfe was briefly hospitalized after falling from a second-story balcony in Monaco on Sunday, but suffered "no long term damage," according to his rep.

The ex-Desperate Housewives actor, who was in Monaco to help host the World Music Awards, was sitting on the ledge of a balcony at the famous Jimmy'z club when he toppled backwards and fell 30 to 40 feet, says his London-based rep.

He was rushed to the Grasse hospital nearby where he had an X-ray and brain scan, and was discharged early Monday. He later flew to London where he was admitted to a private hospital and underwent a CAT scan. "Luckily for him it came up a clean bill of health," says the rep.

Metcalfe has a fractured fibular but "no long term damage" – though he does have some restricted movement in his legs, says his rep. The actor will undergo some physiotherapy.

"To have fallen that distance and not have any major injuries was a miraculous escape," says the rep. "It was a very scary experience for him and those of us who saw him. It was a nasty fall. He was found face down on the floor … It could easily have been fatal."

Metcalfe is "shocked and realizes how lucky he has been," the rep adds. "He is in good spirits and is putting a brace face on it.

Metcalfe, who has spent time in rehab for alcohol problems, had a "couple of glasses of champagne" after working at the award show, adds his rep.

Amy Winehouse Chops Her Beehive

As we sit and pray that Amy Winehouse is on her way to rehabilitation, it appears she's been busy chopping off her itchy looking beehive. The troubled singer surprised photographers this morning when she came to her door at her North London home with a new curly crop.

In a see through vest and fleshed colored bra, the Black in Black singer had reportedly ventured outside to ask to use a photographers mobile phone. She took the cell phone inside, so the nature of the call is unknown, it was confirmed that Miss Winehouse returned with cheese on toast for the paparazzi as a way to say thank you.

Amy also spent some time explaining to the guys that she hadn't been out for a while due to a rash, which she needed medical attention for.

Brokeback Mountain Broadway Debut was Shelved!

Variety is reporting that due to the recent departure of City Opera Artistic Director Gerard Mortier, some upcoming opera projects will be shelved. Among them, was the adaption of the film "Brokeback Mountain".

Mortier reportedly left the organization, which like many arts organizations has been undergoing financial strain resulting in a series of layoffs, because of "budgetary constraints that would not allow him to achieve his programming goals."

Back in June, it was announced that Charles Wuorinen was commissioned to write an opera adaptation of the popular film Brokeback Mountain., the 2005 romantic drama that depicts the complex romantic and sexual relationship between two men in the West over the course of twenty years.

The film was directed by Ang Lee from a screenplay by Diana Ossana and Larry McMurtry, which they adapted from the short story "Brokeback Mountain" by Annie Proulx. The film starred the late Heath Ledger, Jake Gyllenhaal, Anne Hathaway, and Michelle Williams.

Will Oprah Winfrey End Show in 2011?

Is Oprah Winfrey close to ending her talk show?

Winfrey is developing a new cable channel, the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN), with Discovery Communications, and the company's CEO said in a conference call Friday that Winfrey will not renew her syndicated talk show contract when it expires in September 2011.

"The expectation is that after that, her show will go off of ABC in syndication and she will come to OWN," Discovery CEO David Zaslav said, according to the Chicago Tribune. "We're talking now about what the presence will be and what kind of programming she would be involved in directly. But this is her Chapter 2, and building the OWN brand online and on-air is . . . a core mission for her."

But Winfrey's production company says nothing is settled.

"She has not made a final decision as to whether she will continue her show in syndication after her contract expires in 2011," Harpo representative Lisa Halliday said.

Britney Spears & Justin Timberlake Reunite at Madonna's "Sticky & Sweet" Concert

Britney Spears and her ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake reunited at Madonna’s concert Thursday night, November 6th. Although the pair performed separately alongside Madonna, sources say that they met up during rehearsals.

“They said ‘hi’ to each other. Justin was very cool,” says an insider.

A source adds that Spears did “not stress” over the meeting. “This was a good moment for her to just enjoy and have fun,” she source added.

Spears took the stage first and sang ‘Human Nature’ with Madonna. Timberlake appeared next and sang '4 Minutes.’

Christina Aguilera Denies Feud with Britney Spears

Christina Aguilera has denied rumors that she and Britney Spears are feuding. Aguilera insists that she has always wished the troubled pop star well.

“I don’t pass any judgment on what she does. I always wish her all the best,” the singer says.

Aguilera and Spears starred together as children on The Mickey Mouse Club and both went on to become pop stars. “When we both started released records it must have seemed as if we were competing with each other, but, in reality, Britney is someone that I used to hold hands with,” Aguilera says.

“We don’t keep closely in touch with one another. Our lives have taken on two different directions,” she added.

Ellen DeGeneres Saddened Beyond Belief Over Proposition 8

Ellen DeGeneres says that she was “saddened beyond belief” when she learned that Proposition 8 had passed in California.

Proposition 8 will ban same-sex marriages in the state and call in to question the legitimacy of nearly 16,000 gay and lesbian marriages—including DeGeneres’ marriage to longtime girlfriend Portia de Rossi. The proposition was passed by just over 52 percent.

“This morning, when it was clear that Proposition 8 had passed in California, I can’t explain the feeling I had. I was saddened beyond belief,” DeGeneres said in a message posted on her website. “Here we just had a giant step toward equality [with the election of Barack Obama] and then on the very next day, we took a giant step away.”

The proposition specifies that only marriages between a man and a woman will be recognized and it will rewrite the states constitution with those stipulations. Attorney Matthew D. Staver says that he believes California’s same-sex marriages will be annulled. “Constitutional amendments are retroactive,” he told People magazine.

Proposition 8 drew opposition from many other celebrities including Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Steven Spielberg and Lindsay Lohan.

Fake Calls from iPhone

Have you ever been on a blind date that you really wanted to get out of? How about participating in the world's most boring meeting or wanting to get away from the in-laws?

iPhone owners now have a great tool available for making that quick exit, and it's called Fake Calls. From iPhone startup Magic Tap, Fake Calls sells in the App Store (click opens iTunes) for just US$0.99. In order to make it appear that you have just received a phone call from someone important, you can change the wallpaper for the Caller ID, set the phone to ring or vibrate, and customize the caller number or name. You set a time for the fake call (i.e., 15 minutes into that really dull date), and at that predefined time the fake call comes in. Voila! Instant excuse!

Since you're not really being called, no airtime charges apply. Magic Tap is also planning on donating 10 percent of earnings from Fake Calls to several charities -- could it be to assuage their guilt over an app that helps you to lie?

The Simpsons Accused of Homophobia

TV cartoon show The Simpsons has been criticised by a gay advocacy group after a character used the word 'gay' to mean 'bad' or 'rubbish.'

The show, one of the longest-running in TV history, is normally very supportive of the gay community, and even featured an episode where same-sex marrige was legalised in the town of Springfield.

But the latest Halloween special has angered the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) after school bully Nelson Muntz used the phrase "that's so gay" to character Milhouse Van Houten.

GLSEN wants the show's producers to promise not to use the phrase again.

"Nelson's use of 'that's so gay' in a negative way is not surprising considering that 90% of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth say they hear the term used this way frequently or often at school." the group said.

"Nelson should visit ThinkB4YouSpeak.com where he can send an apologetic e-card to Milhouse. GLSEN would also welcome Nelson's participation in our next PSA so he can make amends by helping to educate young people about why such language is wrong."

The blooms are genetically modified and have been implanted with a gene that simulates the synthesis of blue pigment in pansies.
