Britney Spears Returns to 'Edgy' Sound on New CD

While Britney Spears's new single, "Hold It Against Me," may have provided an upbeat preview of her new album, what will the rest of the work sound like?

"It's way more edgy than the last album," songwriter Claude Kelly, who composed several tracks for the as-yet-untitled album, said at a New York NARAS reception. He adds that Spears, 29, is returning to the grittier sounds of 2007's Blackout. "[It's] more in the vein of the album before," he says.

Though Kelly admits he's not completely sure what the "final product is going to be," he does say, "the last album [2008's Circus] was more clean pop. [Its purpose] was to reintroduce Britney to the world as the pop princess."

As the first single also indicates, Spears, who Tweeted from her "Hold It Against Me" video shoot this weekend, has new tunes are definitely club-worthy.

"She's always ready," Kelly says. "Dr. Luke and Max Martin are running the show, and it's all about the beats. It has a heavier bass line and it's much harder, more urgent, more club. She's ready again!"

Glee Cast Tops the Beatles for Billboard Record

It's official: Rachel Berry, Finn Hudson, Will Schuster, Sue Sylvester and the rest of the 'Glee' cast have more appearances on the Billboard Hot 100 chart than any other non-solo act in history--including the Beatles, the Associated Press reports.

The cast of Fox's musical hit show added six more debuts to the chart this week bringing their grand total to 75 songs--four more than the Beatles' 71. Last week's Britney Spears episode helped push the cast past the legendary British foursome.

While the 'Glee' cast has the most appearances on the Billboard Top 100 for a group, Elvis Presley still has the most appearances overall with 108 songs. James Brown is second with 91 and 'Glee' rounds out the top three.

Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin hold the fourth and fifth spots, respectively. The Beatles hold the sixth spot. Other artists in the Top 10 include Elton John, Lil Wayne, Stevie Wonder and Jay-Z.

Overall, the 'Glee' cast has sold 2.8 million albums and 11.5 million downloads. Just give these guys a few more seasons and they might find themselves in the number one spot!

10 'Glee' Spoilers Revealed by the Creator Himself

When it comes to must-see TV, Glee is no Lost. While Lost writers went to famously great lengths to keep the smallest of details leaking from the show, Glee creator Ryan Murphy and the rest of the show's cast have been downright forthcoming with revelations from future episodes.

Based solely on what Ryan and the cast have told the press, here are 10 spoilers from the show's second season that may or may not come as a surprise.

1. Rachel and Finn are staying together (All Season)

Ryan Murphy says he wants to give fans what they want on this one. He explains that "they're united" in season two and "every other scene they're telling each other how much they love each other and kissing inappropriately in the hall." He also likes seeing them as leaders in the Glee group, but warns they will be tested.

“The thing about that is that Rachel did not sleep with Jesse,” Ryan said. “She lied that she did, but she didn’t go through with it. Finn did [go through with it], but the whole point of that was for a guy to say ‘I wish I had waited,’ as opposed to “Yeah!!” That discussion will certainly come up because [Rachel] does not know that, but that’s a whole episode right there. … When she finds out, what will she do?”

2. Britney Spears will start a 'sex riot' (Episode 2)

Glee fans know that the Britney Spears tribute episode is coming up for the second episode, but it sounds like Britney's arrival will play on some surging teen hormones.

Hilariously vapid cheerleader Brittany (Heather Morris) will finally get her first solo. Based on pictures Britney Spears herself posted to Twitter, the two will be recreating Britney's girl-on-girl action with Madonna in the video for "Me Against the Music." While it hasn't been confirmed, this may set things in motion for Brittany to come out as lesbian.

Jane Lynch previously told TV Week of the Britney episode: "Sue Sylvester is of the opinion that Britney Spears is basically the anti-Christ. How does she put it? 'A pop-culture provocateur and responsible for every out-of-control impulse ever created.' So she fears that if Britney Spears' music is played, it will create a sex riot — and it does."

3. Paging Dr. Stamos (Episode 2)

John Stamos will join the show as Emma's love interest in the second episode. He's a dentist and when Will brings him in to talk to the kids about dental hygiene (but really to get a better look at him), The doctor finds the Glee kids have been lax with their teeth. He ends up administering the anesthetic that makes the Britney Spears dream sequences possible.

Get used to John. He'll be wrecking Mr. Schuester's chances with Emma all season as he plays the hunky dentist. It turns out he used to be in a boy band and as an added bonus, he'll likely be wearing a mullet wig in the flashbacks.

4. 'Glee' gets religion (Episode 3)

In the third episode, the show will follow Mercedes (Amber Riley) to church with Kurt tagging along in choir robes. The episode is said to address the issue of teens questioning their faith. Cory Monteith says he's very excited for Finn to sing "Losing My Religion," but more importantly Mercedes gets a real solo.

5. Kurt + Sam 4ever (All Season)

Ryan Murphy, Chris Colfer (Kurt Hummel) and Jane Lynch have all confirmed that Kurt will find himself involved with a hunky new love interest in season two. Chord Overstreet made his debut as Sam Evans while singing "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" in the shower on Tuesday night. He's said he hasn't seen a script pairing him with Kurt yet, but on Tuesday he had a bawdy bit of innuendo foreshadowing things to come.

Puck (remarking on the size of Sam's mouth): "How many tennis balls can you fit in that thing?"
Sam: "I don’t know — I’ve never had balls in my mouth. Have you?"

Ryan Murphy revealed an even bigger spoiler over the summer at Comic-Con: "I want [Kurt] to have a boyfriend and for them to be prom king and king. I think that’s something important to put out into the world."

6. There will be a Rocky Horror Picture Show tribute (Episode 5)

Ryan Murphy has confirmed that he'll be directing the season's fifth episode, a Halloween episode paying tribute to the campiest of campy musicals, The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Says Ryan: "My favorite thing to do is to torture the boys and claim that I don’t know who’s wearing those gold lamé briefs because now they’re all on diets and are all in terror that I’m going to be the one to tell them that they’re the one to do it."

And yes, they will definitely do the "Time Warp."

7. Terri will make Will's life Hell

We haven't seen the end of Will's fiendish ex, Terri (Jessalyn Gilsig). Ryan Murphy says she'll be back to terrorize her estranged husband in the second season.

“We love writing for [Terri],” Ryan said. “I think what she needs to do is date somebody who would make Will puke green with jealousy. She needs to figure out who that person is – it’s not the school principal, for one. We’re making a very narrow list of candidates.”

8. Kristin Chenoweth is coming back... as a stripper

In the first season, Kristin Chenoweth played April Rhodes, a drunk with a heart of gold and the voice of an angel. This season she's confirmed to E! Online that April will be back, and she'll be trying to make ends meet by any means possible.

"I'm going back in two weeks to do Glee. I did hear April will be stripping and it made me nervous—made me not want to eat." Just don't expect any smooth moves on the stripper pole. Says Kristin: "I'm not going to practice it either because I don't think April would know how!"

9. Gwyneth Paltrow will sub for Mr. Schuester

Ryan Murphy has confirmed that Gwyneth Paltrow will be playing a teacher substituting for Mr. Schuester in two upcoming episodes. No word on whether or not she'll do any rap, but she can definitely sing.

"Gwyneth is a great singer. She's done it a little bit but I really want to show it off and show everyone how great she is," he said.

10. Javier Bardem will play a Spanish rock 'n' roll singer

According to Ryan, he found out Javier Bardem is a big fan of the show while the two were working together on Eat, Pray, Love. While Javier's guest spot has been reported and un-reported a couple of times so far, Ryan makes it sound like it's going to happen. And it turns out the whole thing was Javier's idea.

"Let me set the record straight - I didn't have to convince him, he begged!" Ryan said. "He loves the show and wants to play a crazy Spanish rock and roll singer so I'm going to do that."

Britney Spears Has ‘So Much Fun’ on Set of Glee

Britney Spears‘s wish to appear on Glee is finally coming true — and she couldn’t wait to Tweet the first photo of herself on set of the hit Fox show.

“About to do my first shot of the day for Glee tweeties!” Spears, 28, posted early Wednesday on her Twitter page. “Here we goooo!”

And apparently, the shoot was a success. Accompanying the photo of Spears, the pop star Tweeted, “what’s up GLEEKS? Having so much fun on set!! Can’t wait for you guys to see the episode!”

The show’s co-creator Ryan Murphy recently explained why he decided to dedicate an entire episode to the iconic star. “She is arguably the most important female, other than Lady Gaga, of the last 10 years,” he told People magazine earlier this month. “We’re sort of doing an episode about not only her music, but about her public image.”

But it wasn’t just Murphy who thought a Spears-devoted episode would be a great idea. “All the kids on the show, many of them went into singing and dancing because of her,” he said. “Also at the heart of it, it’s a show designed to show off the skills of Heather Morris who plays Brittany.”

Britney Spears to Appear on Glee

Britney fans, rejoice! After previous speculation that the pop star would not appear on a Glee episode dedicated to her hits, the show’s creator says the queen of pop will indeed be joining the kids of William McKinley High School come season 2.

“Britney, I think 100 percent, is going to be on the episode,” Ryan Murphy, Glee creator, told Ryan Seacrest on his radio show Tuesday morning.

The show is racking up quite a repertoire of A-List guests, including John Stamos, Carol Burnett and Javier Bardem, and Murphy credits this celebrity attention to the show’s message.

“The show is, by its nature, about arts education,” he says, “and I think everybody wants to support that.”

Although Murphy says he’s not sure of the exact role Spears will play, the episode will be a dream come true — literally.

“The fun thing about the episode, how we’re doing it, is all the Britney Spears numbers are fantasies,” he says. “They have fantasies about how they can be like her.”

Murphy also addressed rumors that Mr. Schuester (Matthew Morrison) was going to shave his head in homage of Spears’s infamous haircut: “The Britney episode, I’m here to say, is so reverential about her and so kind, and it’s about her music and not about her personal life,” he says. “We’re handling Britney with kids gloves.”

Murphy also said that he hopes to feature music by Prince, the Beatles or Michael Jackson on the post-Super Bowl episode of Glee, although no plans have been made yet.

Glee Creator Reveals Season 2 Secrets!

It feels like Christmas!

Glee creator Ryan Murphy gave gift after gift of season 2 secrets Monday — including who will guest star on the holiday episode, which A-list hunk will be appearing, and what’s up with the Britney episode!

But if you want to be surprised, stop reading now: SPOILERS follow!

Britain’s Got Talent sensation Susan Boyle will make her acting debut on Glee‘s holiday show, and she’ll sing, too. “Susan is on the same label as us and is a fan of the show,” Murphy told People Magazine. “She’s coming out with a Christmas album, so the story I want to do in our Christmas episode is to have Kurt give her some sort of fantastic makeover and have her sing a song that’s from her album on the show.”

Casting Javier Bardem on the show for the latter part of the season was a favor to the Oscar winner, who’s a major fan. “He requested it,” said Murphy. “I think he bought the first 13 episodes on DVD and became obsessed with it. He said it was like crack. And he’s such a ham that it totally makes sense to me that he would want to sing and dance. I think he’s going to play some demented Spanish rock star substitute teacher something, but I don’t know — we haven’t figured that out yet.”

Sir Paul McCartney is apparently another fan, and Murphy was surprised — to the point of thinking he was being “Punk’d” — to receive a note from the Beatle along with two CDs full of classic songs that Sir Paul would love to let the show use. “I was gob-smacked,” said Murphy, “so of course we are going to do something with him.” The collaboration likely won’t be a full-blown tribute episode, however.

• He just started directing the Britney Spears tribute episode. “She is arguably the most important female, other than Lady Gaga, of the last ten years,” Murphy said, noting the show will showcase “not only her music but about her public image. Many of the kids on the show went into singing and dancing because of her. Also at the heart of it, it’s a show designed to show off the skills of Heather Morris, who plays [Glee's cheerleader] Brittany.” The episode, he said, was Spears’s idea. “I just think that she loves what the show is about, that the show’s about paying tribute to pop culture in a very loving, respectful, kind way. She responded to that.”

• Terri Schuster (Jessalyn Gilsig) will resurface to wreck havoc. “She does not want to be divorced and she’s decided in the middle of the first 10 to seek vengeance by going after someone that would make Will incredibly jealous.” Jonathan Groff will also be back for two spring episodes.

• The planned Rocky Horror Picture Show tribute episode will air around Halloween, featuring the film’s signature song “The Time Warp.” Said Murphy: “My favorite thing to do is to torture the boys and claim that I don’t know who’s wearing those gold lamé briefs, because now they’re all on diets. They’re all in terror that I’m going to tell them that they’re the one who has to get naked.”

• A big-screen Glee isn’t likely (although he’s been asked), but a film version of the show’s live concert tour is. “I would do that just because there are so many kids particularly who love the show, and we can’t go to every city. I think we’re going to shoot that next year.”

Britney Spears Getting a 'Glee' Episode

Britney Spears can now count herself in the prestigious company of Madonna, Lady Gaga and Journey -- and not because her music has been made into a kick-ass laser light show. Britney is going to be the latest in a string of artists honored by Glee with an episode devoted to her music.

The show's creator, Ryan Murphy, confirmed a Britney-centric episode for the show's upcoming fall season while speaking with Entertainment Tonight. He didn't say whether or not the decision was influenced by the Twitter campaign started by Britney's manager after Glee's Madonna episode.

The news opens a few possibilities for the show. Sure it's easy to hear Rachel singing "Crazy" after Finn threw her for another loop in the season finale, but who gets to sing the overtly sexual "If U Seek Amy" or the S&M-tinged "Slave 4 U"? Vote below in our poll for the Britney single you'd most like to hear on Glee!

Lady Gaga and Britney Spears Duet in the Works

Monster Ball tour, the two have agreed to collaborate on some tunes -- and Gaga has her dad to thank for the hook-up. Her father Joseph took the opportunity to speak to Britney at a party after the Grammy Awards last month, and he told the pop beauty his daughter was a big admirer.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "Lady Gaga has made no secret of just how much of a Britney fan she is. She has even admitted she used to have posters of her on her wall and she was a great source of inspiration when she was a struggling songwriter."

The insider added, "She was delighted when she found her dad chatting away to Britney at the party. He introduced them and the three of them were locked in conversation for ages. At the end of the chat, they exchanged numbers and agreed to go into the studio and work on music together as soon as Gaga finishes her tour."

Lady Gaga previously revealed she has written songs for Britney and submitted her track "Telephone" for one of her albums, but it was rejected. The eccentric pop star instead recorded a version for her recent album The Fame Monster with Beyonce Knowles.

Gaga said: "I wrote it for her a long time ago, and she just didn't use it on her album. It's fine because I love the song, and it's exciting I get to perform it now."

The European leg of the Monster Ball world tour starts on February 18, and ends in June.

Britney Spears Wraps Circus Tour in U.S.

After nearly seven months, the American leg of Britney Spears's Circus tour came to a close Sunday in Las Vegas.

"Hey Vegas, how y'all feeling?" the headliner, 27, asked the crowd in one of the only times that she spoke during the 90-minute show at Mandalay Bay also attended by Lance Bass and Barry Manilow.

Bass didn't stay in his seat for the entire show, though: He was given a brief lap dance by Spears during the song "Breathe on Me," in which an audience member is invited on stage. Bass was seen singing as Spears smiled at him during the sexually charged choreography.

Sunday's show was the second of Spears's Vegas concerts over the weekend. On Saturday, Miley Cyrus and Spice Girl Melanie Brown attended the concert.

It wasn't all work for Spears in Vegas. Sunday afternoon, the pop star was spotted at Mirage's Sugar Factory with sons Sean Preston, 3, Jayden James, 2, and beau Jason Trawick.

"She spent about $3,000 and walked out of the store with 10 bags," a source tells PEOPLE. "She got a bunch of candy and shirts for her kids and got a bunch of the couture lollipops to give to her backup dancers." Following the purchase, the store sent another $2,500 in merchandise to her room at the Mirage Villas, according to the source.

Though she is finished with the United States leg of the tour, Spears is set to play several shows in Australia in November.
