Music Video Premiere: Ricky Martin's "The Best Thing About Me is You"

When Johnny Weir says things like being gay is the smallest part of “what makes me me,” it’s a big turn off for many (including me). Still, we're glad he’s finally come out publicly and is no longer being coy and now everyone can all get on with our lives.

Ricky Martin is a different story.

He’s also a famous person who everyone assumed was gay but since he came out last year publicly, he’s really become a powerful voice and can influence how the world views gay people and how gay youths view themselves.

Ricky being gay is the most important part of him because he is mature enough to know that it influences all that he does and all that he is.

He has already shared his thoughts so eloquently in his memoir Me and in various interviews he gave last fall. Now we get to see how being an openly gay man impacts his work as a musical artist with today’s release of the music video for his song The Best Thing About Me is You.

It’s about equality and it’s pretty gay.

Enjoy!

Pink to Film Gay Wedding for Music Video

Pop star Pink has depicted a same-sex wedding in her latest music video - after watching her lesbian best friend's "heartbreaking" blessing ceremony. The singer features gay couples in the new promo for her single "Raise Your Glass" and admits the idea was inspired by her own pal, who recently 'wed' in a commitment ceremony. California law forbids homosexual couples from legally marrying.

Pink explains, "I threw my best friend's wedding in my backyard. She is gay and it was a beautiful ceremony. At the end of it, her mom said, 'Why can't that be legal?' and started crying. It was the most heartbreaking thing I've ever seen and that's why I'm doing it in my video."

The "So What" hitmaker is set to be honoured for her work with the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community at the Human Rights Campaign's 14th annual National Dinner at the weekend. Veteran star Bette Midler will present her with the special Ally for Equality Award.

Boyzone Slammed for Gay Music Video

Irish pop group Boyzone have been criticised for featurung a gay couple in their new music video.

The promo for the band’s single "Better" features singer Stephen Gately, who is gay, getting up close with a male actor. And according to Northern Ireland newspaper, the Dromore Leader, an Irish minister has now slammed the clip - claiming it sends a "deadly message to young people.”

Reverend David McCullough, minister of Dromore Reformed Presbyterian Church in Northern Ireland, tells the publication, “This video, that will be watched by millions, is sending out a deadly message to young people. It is stating that homosexuality is simply another norm. The video very cleverly interweaves softly lighted, black and white images of heterosexual couples with a homosexual couple. “The message is plain and the often repeated drum beating of the homosexual lobby that says that homosexuality is a normal lifestyle.”
