Glee Goes Gruesome for 'Thriller'

Costumed and covered in gruesome zombie makeup, the Glee cast is hardly recognizable as they gnash their teeth and perform a jerky dance across a football field for the big February 6th post-Super Bowl extravaganza.

Joined by sexy blue-haired cheerleaders, the group will take on the Michael Jackson's classic "Thriller" video as a mashup with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs's "Heads Will Roll."

The episode, at between $3 and $5 million the most expensive to date, will focus on the growing tension between the Glee club and the football team.

"You can never re-create something as incredible as 'Thriller,' " Lea Michele tells Entertainment Weekly. "We're making it our own."

Gay Doritos Ads Won't Air

The pair of gay-themed Doritos ads that made the rounds on the Web Monday won’t air during the Super Bowl, according to a spokesman for Frito-Lay.

Frito-Lay director of public relations Chris Kuechenmeister told the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation the ads were two out of 5,600 that were submitted to the company for its “Crash the Super Bowl” contest.

He said the ads were not among the finalists chosen by a panel of judges and have no chance of airing during the Super Bowl or otherwise.

The ads, which ran on The Advocate, sparked mixed reaction from gay viewers. One ad features two men steaming in the sauna as one man seductively eyes the other’s crotch. In a second ad a man gazes across the fence at his two gay neighbors, who are sunning themselves and eating Doritos by the pool.

Kuechenmeister said the contest’s judges sought to “identify spots that were appropriate for everyone” and “observe a level of respect for everybody.”

He said though the ads don’t appear on the contest’s official page and the company has no direct ability to remove them, he would be raising the issue with the company’s legal team.

Coming Soon on Glee: Blaine & Kurt to Deliver Super Destiny’s Child Cover

Are the Dalton Academy Warblers about to fall on hard financial times? Sources confirm that Glee’s Darren Criss-fronted group will belt out a cover of the Destiny’s Child tune “Bills Bills Bills” during the show’s post-Super Bowl episode on February 6th.

There’s no word why Blaine (Darren Criss), Kurt (Chris Colfer) & Co. will be grumbling about paying their “telephone and automo’ bills,” particularly considering the special hour will focus on rival school McKinley High’s football championship.

Maybe Kurt wants to cheer on his former classmates but can’t afford the steep ticket price? Stay tuned for more details on the post-Super Bowl Glee show which is sure to be a hit!

Glee's Super Bowl Episode Will Be a "Thriller"

Gleeks, you probably thought Gwyneth Paltrow doing Cee-Lo was big news.

Well, you’re gonna get down on your knees and thank Grilled Cheesus for this latest bit of news.

A Glee source has confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that Glee will be tackling Michael Jackson’s iconic “Thriller” for their post-Super Bowl episode…but with a twist. The Jackson classic will be performed as a mash-up with another song, yet to be chosen. But the supersized episode, which source says will be the most expensive in Glee history and likely one of televsion’s priciest episodes ever, will also feature covers of tunes by Black Eyed Peas, Lady Antebellum, and Katy Perry.

Although “Thriller” is featured in the episode, it will not be a Michael Jackson tribute episode. Nor will it be a tribute to Bruce Springsteen, as rumors have suggested. In fact, sources say that the only pop star truly considered for the Super Bowl episode was Sir Elton John (expect an Elton John tribute episode later this season).

The post-Super Bowl episode will instead keep with the evening’s sports theme and focus on the local football championship and Sue Sylvester’s cheerleading regionals (the “Thriller” mash-up will be played during halftime of the onscreen pigskin game). Basically, it will be a classic episode of Glee, but just bigger and better.

Gleeks can also expect appearances from season two fan favorites: Blaine (Darren Criss) and Coach Beiste (Dot-Marie Jones).

General Motors is co-sponsoring the episode, which likely means there will be limited commercial interruptions.

So, Gleeks are you ready for some football?

Will the Glee Super Bowl Episode Tackle the King of Pop...or the Boss?

Word on the street is that, in Glee‘s post-Super Bowl episode, the McKinley High kids will be singing either the songs of Michael Jackson or Bruce Springsteen. Which seems win/win, right? They’re both musical icons with back catalogs overflowing with hits.

But which would be the better choice? Figuring that out, as Sue Sylvester would say, is hard. Luckily, Michael Ausiello from Entertainment Weekly has a helpful handy-dandy list of the pros and cons of devoting an hour to one vs. the other. Here's what he had to say:

Jacko

Pros: The diversity of his song styles would lend itself brilliantly to Glee‘s variety of singers. For instance, soft-spoken Kurt could whisper his way through “Billie Jean,” jocks Finn and Puck could muscle their way through “Beat It,” and powerhouses Rachel and Mercedes could—no, would—kill MJ’s once-upon-a-duet with sis Janet, “Scream.” Plus, you just know Mr. Schue would do a mean moonwalk.

Cons: Since the Super Bowl is in February, not October, chances are slim that we’d get “Thriller.” And I want “Thriller.” Badly. Also, since he’s passed on, do we forget about all the child-molestation allegations now? Is that, like, a rule?

Bruce

Pros: Not only could a Bruce-centric episode possibly bring gridiron fans to the show in a way that (sorry) the football team getting down to “Single Ladies” never could, a “Born in the USA” cover could easily be 2011′s classic-rock answer to “Don’t Stop Believin’.” (And c’mon, Finn is pretty much made to fill out Springsteen’s jeans.) Moreover, Puck could show off his softer side on “I’m on Fire,” “Dancing in the Dark” could take on a whole new meaning with daffy Brittany performing it, and can’t you just picture the flashbacks to a teenage Will belting out “Glory Days”?

Cons: How many Springsteen songs do you really know? I mean, quick—can you hum “Streets of Philadelphia” or “Secret Garden” from his greatest-hits CD? I, um, can’t.

And the winner is… Oh, I’m not touching this one. You guys can vote below. And something tells me you will…

David Letterman, Jay Leno & Oprah Winfrey Team Up for Super Bowl Commercial

In what was one of the most popular Super Bowl commercials of the night, late night hosts David Letterman and Jay Leno joined talk show host Oprah Winfrey in a 10 second spot for The Late Show with David Letterman.

Late Show executive producer Rob Burnett told Entertainment Weekly how the ad was shot without the press catching on:

“We began having logistical meetings that would make the CIA proud,” Rob said. “We had to figure out a way to keep it a surprise. NBC arranged to have Jay fly on the NBC jet at 7:30 in morning on February 2nd and he was at the Teterboro Airport [in New Jersey] at 3:30 pm. We snuck him through the front door on Broadway.”

“Jay wore a disguise …a hooded sweatshirt, dark sunglasses and a mustache. Fifteen minutes later, Oprah arrived … but not in a disguise. We shot it in the balcony of the Ed Sullivan Theater.”

Paparazzi!: Keys to the Kingdom

He just won the Super Bowl…so where did he go? Disney World! New Orleans Saints quarterback and Super Bowl MVP Drew Brees enjoys the view along the parade route with Mickey Mouse on Monday during a celebration at the Magic Kingdom theme park in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

Super Bowl Eclipses M*A*S*H Finale as Most-Watched TV Show

A long-standing television record was rewritten Sunday night, as CBS’s broadcast of Super Bowl XLIV became the most-watched TV program in history.

Nielsen says 106.5 million TV viewers watched the New Orleans Saints defeat the Indianapolis Colts, according to reports by the Associated Press. That surpasses the 105.97 million who watched the series finale of M*A*S*H on February 28, 1983, which was also aired on CBS.

The previous record viewership for a Super Bowl was set just last year, when 98.7 million people watched the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Arizona Cardinals.

While Drew Brees and Peyton Manning certainly attracted plenty of attention on Sunday night, Hawkeye and Klinger can be comfortable knowing their mark was made in an era with fewer TV sets and a smaller population.

Cast of Jersey Shore Returns for Season 2

Pump your fists, Jersey Shore fans!

MTV has announced that its hit reality show, Jersey Shore, will return with the original cast for a second season this summer.

Pauly Delvecchio, Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino, Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, Jenni “J-WOWW” Farley, Sammi “Sweetheart” Giancola, Ronnie Margo and Vinny Guadagnino will all “escape the cold Northeast and find themselves in a new destination” for season 2, MTV said in a statement.

“Our audience has fallen in love with Jersey Shore and its amazing cast who have really grown together as a family. That bond gives the show its heart, and we’re thrilled to reunite these friends to bring fans more of what they love — laughs, love, drama and of course, GTL,” MTV’s President of Programming Tony DiSanto said.

If you can’t wait until summer to see Snooki dance or The Situation work the duck phone, MTV will broadcast the Jersey Bowl February 7th at 9:00 am (ET), a marathon of season 1, leading up to the Super Bowl.

Carrie Underwood Performing at Super Bowl

American Idol winners Jordin Sparks and Kris Allen got the championship games. But when it comes to the national anthem for Super Bowl XLIV, the NFL calls on the singer who has sold more albums in the U.S. than any other Idol winner: Carrie Underwood.

Carrie's the third straight Idol to get the Super Bowl gig: Jordin and Jennifer Hudson have sung it previously. Carrie joins an impressive list of performers who have sung The Star Spangled Banner at the game, including Billy Joel, Diana Ross, Neil Diamond, Whitney Houston, Harry Connick, Jr., Garth Brooks, Natalie Cole, Vanessa Williams, Luther Vandross, Cher, Faith Hill, Mariah Carey, Dixie Chicks and Beyoncé Knowles.

Super Bowl XLIV takes places on Sunday, February 5th at 6:00 pm (ET) in Miami, Florida. It will be televised on CBS.

Super Bowl, Super Commercials

This Super Bowl will go down in history due to Pittsburgh Steeler's Santonio Holme's catch at the end zone with only 37 seconds left in the game. The Steelers ended winning Super Bowl XLIII with a close score of 27 - 23 versus the Arizona Cardinals.

Now, my favorite part of this historic event were the incredible commercials from Bridgestone Tires, Budweiser, Pepsi, Acura, and GoDaddy.com to name of few, but my favorite was from Frito Lay's Doritos. Their "Bus" commercial was funny and very entertaining. My friends and I could not stop laughing after we saw this commercial.

Here is the Dorito's bus commercial for you to enjoy.

Pic of the Day: Steelers Steel the Show!

The Pittsburgh Steelers won their record sixth Super Bowl championship in a 27-23 triumph over the underdog Arizona Cardinals, and they won it by this much: Santonio Holmes' two big toes.

Have a Super Sunday!

Tonight millions of viewers from around the world will be "glued" to their TVs watching the Pittsburgh Steelers vs the Arizona Cardinals compete for the convented prize of winning Super Bowl XLIII, live from Tampa Bay.

I for one will be hosting my first "Super Bowl" party at home and will be cheering for either team to win ('cause I could care less of who wins...since it's not the Miami Dolphins playing).

But my main reason for watching this year's Super Bowl will be to hear Jennifer Hudson sing the National Anthem, followed by watching the incredible commercials, and of course, enjoying the half-time show with the great, Bruce Springsteen. How I wish we would also be enjoying a "Bud Bowl".

So to all the football fans...enjoy your Super Bowl Sunday!
