What's the Sweetest Moment of Glee's Valentine's Day Episode?

It was Valentine's Day at McKinley High on Tuesday's "Silly Love Songs" episode of Glee – and love was in the air. But which moment was sweeter than a box of chocolates?

Less than seven minutes in heaven – er, the janitor's closet – was enough for Puck to fall hard for his plus-size classmate Lauren Zizes. When she rejected him, he tried everything to earn her affection, including singing "Fat Bottom Girls," which she found offensive. After convincing her to go on a date to Breadsticks, Puck was stood up. When he confronted her and told her his attraction wasn't about her curves but because she's the "bigger badass," she agreed to take things slow and be his Valentine's date – as friends.

After witnessing Blaine's embarrassing Valentine's Day serenade of a Gap junior manager, Kurt tells the cute warbler that he was not alone in misreading love signals. "I thought the guy that you wanted to ask out on Valentine's Day was me," Kurt said, pointing out that they sing "flirty duets together" and know each other's coffee orders. "I really, really care about you but ... I'm not very good at romance," Blaine tells him. "I don't want to screw this up."

At his kissing booth to earn money for glee club, Rachel told Finn she still loves him and asked for forgiveness for cheating with Puck. Finn gave her the star necklace that he bought her for Christmas before they broke up. "You're better than everyone at this school," he said, adding that he wants to be alone for a while. "You're a real star and you need to shine." Later, he admitted that he kissed Quinn and saw fireworks, and she said she was glad to know the truth. "Now I'm free to pursue my dreams without anything holding me back," she said.

How 'Glee' is Leading TV's Gay-Teen Revolution

Gay teens are suddenly popping up in major roles all over television, with Glee’s popular pairing of Kurt (Chris Colfer) and Blaine (Darren Criss) leading the way.

How did gay teens go from marginalized outcasts and goofy sidekicks to some of the highest profile — and most beloved — characters on the likes of 90210, Pretty Little Liars, and Skins?

And more importantly, how is this affecting real-life teens still facing the daily high-school realities of bullying, discrimination, and ignorance?

The new issue of Entertainment Weekly investigates the history of gay teens on TV — from the angsty Rickie on My So-Called Life to sensitive-soul Jack on Dawson’s Creek to the slew of groundbreaking characters on Degrassi. We talk to the producers who fought for such progress, the actors who held the career-defining roles, and the activists who cheer recent advances — but are still pushing for more. Among them:

* Colfer, on his wildly flirtatious version of “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” with Criss, which became the most downloaded track off the Glee Christmas album: “That was by far the gayest thing that has ever been on TV, period,” Colfer says. “Forget AbFab, forget Beautiful People and Will & Grace.” Adds creator/exec producer Ryan Murphy: “I was proud of that. I think it pushed the envelope a bit.”

* My So-Called Life creator Winnie Holzman, on ABC’s reaction to Rickie as a character when the show premiered in 1994: “The thing I got the most pushback about was in the pilot, when he puts eyeliner on in the girls’ bathroom. I remember I mentioned The Crying Game, which had just come out, and Michael Jackson wearing eyeliner [to convince the network]. So they went with it.”

* The O.C. (and Gossip Girl) exec producer Stephanie Savage on the short-lived romance between Marissa (Mischa Barton) and girlfriend Alex (Olivia Wilde) in 2005, during the height of network censorship fears (after the Janet Jackson Super Bowl incident): “We could’ve had more support in terms of making that a long-term story line. There were definitely some questions about how long we were doing this story. And we did have to do some editing to make kisses shorter and pull back on some physicality of the characters.”

Anne Hathaway to Play Chris Colfer's Lesbian Aunt on Glee

Everyone, it seems, wants to be on Glee. And Anne Hathaway soon will be – in an offbeat role she invented for herself.

"We just finalized a deal with Anne tonight to come onto the show," creator Ryan Murphy told People magazine on Sunday at the Golden Globe Awards, where Glee was named best comedy or musical for the second straight year.

"She's already created [her role]," Murphy said. "She wants to play the lesbian aunt of Chris Colfer. Because everyone needs a lesbian aunt."

Hathaway, 28, isn't the only star to seek a guest spot on the show. Plenty of others pitched Murphy on Sunday. "They always do," he said. "I can't even think of who. But it's so sweet. I think they support the show because it's about the arts."

Glee outdid itself at the Golden Globes in its sophomore season, as Colfer and Jane Lynch were first-time winners in the supporting actor and actress categories – further sweetening the show's repeat victory as best comedy or musical.

"Whenever you do something twice, it proves that the first time wasn't a fluke," Murphy said. "It means I dug in there and did some good work."

At the Fox afterparty, Murphy still hadn't fully celebrated with the cast, but he could barely contain his pride for what they've accomplished.

"I haven't really seen them yet, because you win and then you're whisked backstage and it's a whirlwind," he said. "But they're all right over there. I'm going to go hug them and kiss them. They're like our children. Look at them! Look at those faces! They are so young. God bless them."

Glee Couples Status Report: What's in the Future for Your Favorites?

"Is there hope for Wemma?! What about Quick?!" E! Online'sTwitter feeds have been flooded with fans asking about Glee romances.

Don't worry, E! has heard Glee fans loud and clear, and went straight to the stars for the answers. Read on for the latest news on Glee's power couples—and new favorites Kurt and Blaine. Plus, who will spend Valentine's Day in...slow motion?

E! Online cornered the men of Glee (that's the kind of sacrifice they are willing to make for you fans) at the TCA press tour to get the goods on their television love lives, and they didn't hold back. For starters, Mr. Schue is pretty darn sick of feeling jealous over Carl (John Stamos), and now it's Emma's turn!

"Carl hasn't been back yet, but you know Gwyneth Paltrow is coming back and I think her and I are going to get a little loving going on," Matthew Morrison tells us. "So it'll be my chance to show Emma up a little bit. Make her a little jealous because she's been making me really jealous lately." Understandable. Stamos is kind of a dreamboat.

Remember when Quinn and Puck had a kid? Mark Salling does, and he thinks there still might be a chance for those two crazy kids to get together. "I wouldn't rule anything out," he says. "We don't know what going on until the week before when we get the script, so who knows?" We're sure Quick fans will hold onto that little string of hope like a lifeline, right?

And now, ladies and gentlemen, your teenage dream Darren Criss has a message for those desperate for Blaine and Kurt to get together. "There's going to be some fun things. Every day Chris (Colfer) and I are both equally curious to see what's going to happen between the two of those guys," he spills to E! Online. "We're definitely going to start seeing some layers to the two of them. The pink elephant in the room will finally be addressed, let's put it that way."

Speaking of pink, Glee has a Valentine's Day episode coming up! Kevin McHale is especially anxious for fans to see that one. "[Artie] is with Brittany [Heather Morris], and it's a very fun and cute episode," he tells us. "We get to do a lot of fun numbers. This number I get to do, I can't say [what it is] but I'm very, very excited to do it. There's slow motion! I love slow motion."

We wonder what the already slow Brittany is like in slow motion...does she just stand still? These are the important questions, Glee fans want to know.

The next new episode of Glee will premiere on Super Bowl Sunday, February 6th, right after the game on FOX. It's sure to be a "Thriller"!

A “Glee” Spoiler Regarding Kurt and Blaine!

It’s been a tough school year so far for our Kurt Hummel played by Emmy, Golden Globe and SAG award nominee Chris Colfer.

He’s been bullied by a closeted thug at school whose continued presence has so unnerved Kurt that the openly gay glee club member has transferred to a private school.

Okay, that’s enough background. If you don’t want to know about what is in store for Kurt in some future episodes, consider this to be your SPOILER ALERT!!!

So, we know that Kurt has fallen for a fellow gay student at his new school: Blaine played by hottie Darren Criss.

Colfer talked to TV Guide’s William Keck about the February 8th Valentine’s episode when Kurt and Blaine croon "When I Get You Alone" outside of a Gap store.

Keck reports that it is there that Blaine will profess his love.

Colfer hinted: “There might be a development.”

Let's hope the develop a lasting relationship on the show. Stay tuned for more!

Julie Andrews & Anne Hathaway Set for Glee?

The Princess Diaries stars Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews are in negotiations to reteam for an upcoming episode of Glee.

Dame Julie is in talks to play the grandmother of Chris Colfer's gay character Kurt Hummel, while 2011 Oscars co-host Hathaway is reportedly close to signing on to play his aunt, according to the Daily Express.

It's a dream come true for Hathaway, who recently revealed she's desperate to land a guest role on the show.

The Devil Wears Prada had even worked out the whole storyline and the song she'd love to sing.

Hathaway said, "In my head, I've cast myself in Glee and I know what song I'm going to sing! I would wanna play Kurt's long-lost aunt's mother's sister who is also gay, (who) comes back to help him deal with his sexuality, and I would sing You Are Not Alone from Steven Sondheim's epic show Into the Woods."

Glee's Chris Colfer on his Golden Globe Nomination and His New Big-Screen Project

Glee‘s Chris Colfer now has more to be glee-ful about than a phenomenal second season: He’s been nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor in TV Series, Mini-Series, or Made-for-TV Movie.

Shortly after finding out about his nod, Colfer rang Entertainment Weekly to talk about the Globes, as well as his upcoming foray into movies.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: So how did you find out? Were you awake?
CHRIS COLFER: I woke up with a phone call. I was not awake for the announcement. My publicist called me at 5 a.m., and I’ve been wide awake since.

Have you celebrated yet?
No not really! For one, all my friends are on the show and they’re working today! And all my family lives four hours away so I have no one to celebrate with. So I might go get some frozen yogurt and have a party by myself.
That feels kinda sad.
It’s sad, Tim. You can say it! [Laughs] It’s sad and pathetic.

Is it sweet to get nominated for the bullying storyline that’s been such a big part of this season?
Oh yeah. The storyline has been meaningful for so many people. It validates it as much as the feedback we’ve gotten from the people it’s affected and people that needed to see it.

Have you talked to your fellow acting nominees, Matthew Morrison, Lea Michele, and Jane Lynch?
I saw Matt, Jane, and Lea this morning and I tackled all of them.

Jane is like 6 feet tall! That’s impressive!
Oh yeah. She could take me and she has before. The only person I’m actually eligible to take down is Lea. She’s tiny but she’s powerful.

Are you working today?
I’m not, because I’m at the other school [Dalton Academy] so I only work once a week rather than everyday all day like the others do.

Is that weird now to not be working so much?
It was a nice break for the first two days, and now I feel like a housewife. I don’t know what to do with myself! I literally will sometimes sit at home and twitch. I’ve run all my errands, paid all my bills, seen all my doctors. There’s literally nothing else for me to do. I don’t think I could ever retire.

Maybe some pottery classes?
Oh, I’m already there.

You just wrote a screenplay, right? The teen comedy Struck by Lightning?
I did yes!

Can you tell me a little bit about it?
I can say that it’s probably not as good as Inception but it’s probably better than Sharktopus. It’s very strange that I’m actually talking about it now because it’s been a very secret project. I hate the whole taboo of actors that write and I never wanted to seem like that.

Will the character be different than Kurt?
It will be very different yes. It will be someone I wished I was in high school. And here will be no singing and dancing allowed.

Coming Soon on Glee: Blaine & Kurt to Deliver Super Destiny’s Child Cover

Are the Dalton Academy Warblers about to fall on hard financial times? Sources confirm that Glee’s Darren Criss-fronted group will belt out a cover of the Destiny’s Child tune “Bills Bills Bills” during the show’s post-Super Bowl episode on February 6th.

There’s no word why Blaine (Darren Criss), Kurt (Chris Colfer) & Co. will be grumbling about paying their “telephone and automo’ bills,” particularly considering the special hour will focus on rival school McKinley High’s football championship.

Maybe Kurt wants to cheer on his former classmates but can’t afford the steep ticket price? Stay tuned for more details on the post-Super Bowl Glee show which is sure to be a hit!

What Was Glee's Most Surprising Twist?

Change was in the air Tuesday on Glee's "Special Education" episode – from a shakeup in the club's usual lineup to plenty of personal drama.

To start, Mr. Schuester decided to refresh his predictable approach to songs and singers for the upcoming sectionals competition. Instead of relying on Rachel for a shining solo and giving her a duet with Finn, Mr. Schu spread the spotlight around, showcasing Quinn and Sam's chemistry, Santana's voice and Brittany's and Mike's dance moves.

Meanwhile, Kurt – who was always a strong force at McKinley High – got off to a rocky start with Dalton Academy's glee club, The Warblers. On his first day, Kurt jumped in with lots of suggestions for numbers with more "panache" – but the group's rigid decision-making system left little room for his personal flair.

Even after performing a rousing version of "Don't Cry for me Argentina" as an audition for a solo spot, Kurt was rejected and told by his pal Blaine not to "try so hard" next time.

In terms of personal drama, Rachel found out about Finn's hookup with Santana, which happened before they were dating. Tina convinced Artie that their respective partners, Mike and Brittany, were cheating on them together during their long dance rehearsals. And although he knows she's happily dating another man, Mr. Schuester invited Emma to be his plus-one at sectionals.

At the competition, New Directions started to lose their team spirit and devolve into in-fighting backstage until Mr. Schuester told them, "Look, I don't care if you guys hate each other. All I want is for you guys to go out there and sing together."

And they did. The New Directions – fronted by Sam and Quinn singing "I've Had the Time of My Life" and Santana singing "Valerie" – got a standing ovation. But was it enough to beat The Hipsters and The Warblers? In the end, New Directions tied for first place with The Warblers, so both groups will head to the next level of competition – regionals.

As for all the turmoil, it turned out Mike and Brittany did not cheat, so Tina and Mike happily got back together, as did Brittany and Artie. Rachel and Finn weren't so lucky, though. The golden couple broke up after Rachel admitted she made out with Puck to get back at Finn.

But Emma had an even bigger surprise for Mr. Schuester: She went off to Las Vegas for a romantic trip with her dentist beau Dr. Carl – and got married! Mr. Schuester could barely muster the breath to say he was happy for her.

Glee's Ryan Murphy Discusses Darren Criss, Whether Kurt and Blaine Will Be Boyfriends

While Glee’s storylines and overall plot may be all over the map in terms of consistency, there’s one thing that you can’t deny: What the show represents when it comes to GLBT visibility. Chris Colfer’s Kurt Hummel is coming into millions of homes every week and, thanks to out creator/writer/director Ryan Murphy, Red State America is getting an education in what it means to be an out gay teen.

AfterElton.com caught up with Murphy at the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center’s 39th Annual Gala on Saturday to discuss the storyline, how Darren Criss’ Blaine will play into that and the status of Kurt’s boyfriend.

AfterElton: How many episodes is the anti-bullying story line going to be?
Ryan Murphy: I think it’s a whole year, actually. It’s not a couple episodes; it will probably be the whole season, actually, and the ramifications on everybody, which I think is important.

AE: How is Blaine going to play into that?
Murphy: I don’t know. We’re just writing him now. Darren has become such a sensation in one week, which I love. I think there’s a hunger for him and a positive relationship role model. He’ll definitely continue through the year and longer. We just signed a deal with him, so I don’t know.

AE: He’s confirmed to be a regular for the remainder of Season 2 and next season as well?
Murphy: Yes.

AE: Is Blaine going to be Kurt’s boyfriend?
Murphy: I don’t know. That I have not decided. We’re writing it. I want to see what people’s reaction to that is. Part of me thinks he should be the boyfriend, part of me thinks he should just be the mentor. I didn’t want to decide that until we got into sort of the middle of the season. We’re figuring it out now.

AE: If he doesn’t wind up becoming Kurt’s boyfriend, are we going to see Kurt have a boyfriend?
Murphy: Kurt will definitely get a boyfriend. The question is who will it be and how will it be.

AE: What was it about Darren Criss that initially appealed to you?
Murphy: He had auditioned and auditioned many, many times and I personally never saw his auditions. Then when we were casting, the casting director said, “You gave us many choices.” As soon as Darren came on and [I saw] his audition, I was like, “That’s the guy.”

AE: Had you seen Criss’ A Very Potter Musical before?
Murphy: No, I didn’t know anything about Darren. I just knew he was right.

AE: What do you think of his success of “Teenage Dream?” It's become Glee’s biggest hit yet.
Murphy: I’m proud of that. That’s our biggest-selling single ever in the history of the show and the fact that it’s one boy singing to another boy on a network television show and it’s a No. 1 song and it sold probably 200,000 copies in one week is a very profound thing that I’m personally very proud of.

I never expected that to happen. I’m catching up with the week that was and figuring out, OK, now we have this great commodity in something that people have really embraced. It just shows to me that people are hungry for that.

AE: Will there be a PSA at the end of the season for the Trevor Project? Have you considered that yet?
Murphy: I have not considered that; I do a lot of support work with the Trevor Project, but maybe I should. I think if we do it, we should just write it into the story instead of doing a PSA.

Glee Bully Max Adler Kisses & Tells About Kurt

Max Adler, who plays "Glee" football player and resident bully Dave Karofsky, doesn't know if he'll get to kiss and make up on the show anytime soon.

On the Tuesday, November 9th episode "Never Been Kissed," Karofsky's bullying escalates against openly gay show choir member Kurt (Chris Colfer) until they have a confrontation in the boys' locker room. Instead of pummeling Kurt, however, Karofsky kisses him.

The character's surprising but confused feelings is something Adler had actually considered but never thought would become reality since Karofsky had always been a one-note tormentor, either shoving other students or dousing them in slushies.

"Before this was written, I thought there's got to be a reason why he's so angry, why he's such a bully, why he's going out of his way to make other people's lives a living hell," Adler tells Zap2it. "So I toyed with it. When this developed, it was kind of cool."

Despite his suspicions, the actor was still surprised by the kiss since there hadn't been any discussion about Karofsky's sexuality previously, even behind the scenes.

"I just got the script delivered and was reading it," says Adler. "I thought, 'This is getting serious. He's not backing off. He's going to punch him.' And then I turn the page and it says, 'Karofsky kisses Kurt.' I was like, 'What?' I jumped off the couch. I was just as shocked as anybody else."

When it came to shooting the emotionally fraught scene, Adler credits Colfer with setting the tone. "Chris is one of the best actors I've ever worked with," he says. "He's just so good in every take. He gives so much."

This includes taking a staged beating each time Karofsky decides to shove Kurt into the lockers.

"I hurt him every time. He broke two ribs," Adler jokes. "Actually, Chris takes a lot of it himself. I kind of graze him and give a little nudge but he throws himself harder into the lockers than it looks like. We work it out with stunt people before so it's all coordinated. He takes the hits well. He's like a little stunt man in there."

Kurt and new friend Blaine's (Darren Criss) attempts to get Karofsky to own his sexuality and come out of the closet fail though. In fact, he's angrier than ever and the bullying continues until it comes to a head at school.

"My parents get involved," Adler reveals about the November 23rd episode titled "Furt." "My mom is not there but you meet my dad (played by Daniel Roebuck). Mike O'Malley's in the episode too. I've already shot that episode and I'm in the next four for sure."

For now, Adler is just enjoying the positive feedback from his friends, family and strangers who've found him on Twitter or Facebook.

"I was just glad to represent such a large group of people," he says. "I've gotten so many messages from people all around the world these last couple of days thanking me because either they are Karofsky, they were Karofsky or they know a Karofsky."

Apparently, the support is so strong, there's even a faction of fans who want Kurt and Karofsky to be a couple.

"I've been seeing a lot of things for 'Kurtofsky,'" reveals Adler. "There's back and forth. I've been getting all the comments for Team Dave. They want me to be Kurt's protector and his big teddy bear and want Kurt and Blaine to just be friends. But I'm sure that Darren [Criss] is getting all the Team Blaine comments."

And even though many improbable things happen on "Glee," Adler doubts that "Kurtofsky" will ever come to pass. "You heard Kurt. He thinks I'm a chubby guy who sweats too much. So I don't see him being sexually attracted to me, but obviously I am to him."

Adler, who'll be speaking at the Anti-Defamation League Concert Against Hate this weekend, was actually a First Chair All-State show choir member in high school. And even though he doesn't think "Glee" needs yet another song-and-dance guy added to the mix, he'd like to propose a certain type of song should creator Ryan Murphy decide to allow Karofsky a number.

"I like the crooners. I like Michael Bublé and Dean Martin. That's kind of my style, where I think I sound the best."

"Glee" airs Tuesday at 8:00 pm (ET) on FOX.

Glee's Kurt Finally Gets His First Gay Kiss (But NOT From His Teenage Dream)

Glee fans have been speculating for weeks that McKinley High's openly gay student Kurt would get his first kiss on last night's episode. And while finally happened, it certainly didn't pan out as expected.

The scene had been set for Kurt (played by Chris Colfer) to spark up a romance with Blaine (played by Darren Criss), another gay student from a rival glee club.

Blaine charmed Kurt with his group's rendition of Katy Perry's Teenage Dream at the Dalton Academy for the Boys and a passionate moment seemed imminent.

But to the surprise of viewers it was Karofsky (played by Max Adler), a 'Neanderthal' football jock who had been subjecting Kurt to bullying about his sexuality, who locked lips with him.
Kurt was left reeling after the kiss and took Blaine to confront confused Karofsky, who responded with only aggression.
Colfer said last week that the cast had been sworn to secrecy over the kiss.

He said: "It's so big that we had a full meeting about it that we can't say anything. That's never happened before."
It wasn't the only eyebrow raising moment in the episode, titled Never Been Kissed.

Mr. Schuester (played by Matthew Morrison) gave Coach Beiste (played by Dot-Marie Jones) her first ever smooch.
The episode had already received the stamp of approval from singer Katy Perry, whose song was one of the highlights of the show.

'This just brought a sweet tear to my eye!' the singer Twittered after seeing the routine. 'Teenage Dream on GLEE makes my heart go WEEE!"

It's "The Rocky Horror Glee Show" Tonight!

It's Halloween. What's a Gleek to do? Let's put on The Rocky Horror Picture Show is what Will (Matthew Morrison decides to do!

The reason that New Directions is putting its spin on the 1975 cult classic (at least according to the plot) is that Emma's (Jayma Mays) a big fan and Will wants to impress Emma, so... it's time for "Time Warp."

That's Kurt (Chris Colfer) underneath the bald Riff-Raff wig, by the way. Movie alums Barry Bostwick and Meat Loaf are in the guest cast, playing station managers at the TV station where Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) hurls her "As Sue Sees It" darts. And, yes, Sue's scheming to stop the show.

The Halloween-themed episode will be broadcast tonight at 8:00 pm (ET) on FOX.

Glee Exclusive: Kurt's New (Boy)friend Speaks!

“My guess is as good as anybody’s,” shrugs newest Glee cast member Darren Criss of reports that his character Blaine—a charismatic, out-and-proud gay teen from a rival school—is being groomed as a love interest for Chris Colfer’s Kurt. “It’s a really big secret.”

The two meet in the November 9th episode when Kurt, who is fast becoming fed up with life at McKinley High, considers transferring to the nearby Dalton Academy, where Criss’ character is a student. “I think Blaine’s most important role is…as a mentor to Kurt,” says Criss, whose only major pre-Glee TV credit was a stint on ABC’s short-lived Eastwick. “At this point, Kurt’s [sexuality] has been such a sense of discord in his life. Blaine finds [being gay] empowering. He embraces who he is, and sees Kurt [struggling with] the same things that he had to deal with, and I think he wants to impart that knowledge.”

Criss hopes Blaine will serve as a positive role model for viewers as well, given the recent string of suicides among gay youth. “It’s great to see a strong character like this on a hit show that so many people are watching,” he says. “I can’t really think of any other gay characters on TV that are this young and sure of themselves. I hope all the kids struggling with this issue can look to a guy like Blaine and feel [inspired] by his confidence.”

Darren Criss Joins 'Glee' as Kurt's New Boyfriend?

The plot surrounding Kurt’s first boyfriend on Glee thickens. Actor-singer-songwriter Darren Criss—best known to TV audiences as Matt Dallas’ brother on Eastwick—has landed the much-talked-about new gay role on the Fox phenom.

But will he have eyes for Kurt? Maybe. Maybe not.

Per a Glee source, Criss’ character, Blaine—a cute and charismatic gay student from a rival Glee club named the Dalton Academy Warblers—will maintain a strictly platonic friendship with McKinley High’s most out and proud pupil. But could that change as the season progresses? Yes, it could.

Sounds like series creator Ryan Murphy is keeping his options open.

Ever since Murphy announced that Kurt would be getting a love interest in season 2, speculation about the identity of his suitor has run rampant. The casting of pretty boy Chord Overstreet led some to speculate that his quarterback character Sam would play that role, a theory Chris Colfer all but shot down when he said that there’s no sign of romantic tension between Sam and Kurt in the first four episodes. “Maybe it is too obvious,” he theorized. “Our writers have a way of avoiding the obvious and throwing curveballs.”

In addition to his TV work, Criss has built quite a web following as a member of the University of Michigan theater company Team StarKid. The group’s spoof, A Very Potter Musical, went viral and turned Criss (who plays the title role) into a bit of an internet star.

Chord Overstreet Talks to Vanity Fair About Glee

Did everyone enjoy the season premiere of Glee on Wednesday night? If you watched it, then you had the pleasure of meeting their newest student, played by Chord Overstreet.

He plays transfer student Sam Evans and he has replaced Finn (Cory Monteith) as starting quarterback at McKinley High and is rumored to be the new love interest for Kurt (Chris Colfer who was barely seen this episode).

Vanity Fair has a new Q&A with the young actor which helps us get to know him a bit better. Here are some excerpts:

Q. Tell me about how you got the part on Glee. Every cast member I’ve talked to has a crazy story about auditioning for some other part, or starting out as background scenery and ending up earning a role. Please tell me you have a really exciting anecdote where you were auditioning to be a Cheerio or Sue’s spectacularly handsome son.

A. I was actually auditioning to be Sue’s (Jane Lynch’s) stand-in—because we have the same color hair. I’m kidding. I auditioned for my part. I got a call from my agent one day and he asked if I could do an audition for Glee in like 30 minutes. So I grabbed my guitar and ran over there. There were so many people in the casting office they weren’t even having anyone read the sides, they were just having people play a song. So I played one, and they asked me to come back and talk to the casting agent. Then I played again. Then they asked me to walk out and “discreetely” get my sides, and come back and read. I was there for, like, five hours. Then I went home and they called and asked me to come back and sing two songs a capella. And then I sang two songs for the studio test and two for the network test. This was like at 9:30 at night. A week later I found out I got the part.

One thing I did discover on the internet is your online resume in which you are described as being six feet tall, 160 pounds, and having an “Athletic” build. Having (repeatedly) watched your shower scene in the Glee season premiere, this all seems quite accurate. Do you have a rather intense workout routine, or do you just do a lot of choreographed dancing, jazzercise, and the like?

Well, I do like two or three hours at a time in the gym. I was there last night. I just did chest and abs and triceps. Flat bench for two sets of 100 reps each on a light weight, then fifteen reps of four sets of really heavy weight. Then I did my push ups. Then I did this thing with pulleys and the weights attached, which is like an exercise for your chest. Then running. Then an hour of abs.

An hour of abs?!

You got to look good for the ladies. And for all those guys who want to see your body. If I’m going to be on national T.V. without my shirt on, I’ve got to look good.

Well, Chord. You succeeded.

Thank you.

Now, of course, the question everyone wants to know is if the rumors that you will become Kurt’s boyfriend on the show are accurate?

I actually don’t know that yet. We get everything an episode at a time. As of what we’ve shot now, they haven’t revealed anything about my character in a relationship way. But I think we’ll find out soon enough.

There is rumored to be man-on-man kissing. You’d be down with that?

I don’t know if I would be totally down with that outside of work. I’ve never kissed a guy before. But it’s acting. It’s kind of one of those things. Currently you have to kiss a bunch of strange people in the world of film and television.

You have to kiss a bunch of strange people?

Throughout your whole career, there’s a bunch of people you might have to kiss. Say there’s this character opposite you, and you might not be into her—or him, personally. You just gotta’ do it. That’s your job.

And beyond? You’re willing to go full Brokeback?

I have no idea. I’m going to say, no comment. I’m going to dig myself in a hole.

Glee's Chris Colfer Chats with Rolling Stone

Chris Colfer, who plays gay teenager Kurt Hummel on Glee, is featured in the special television issue of Rolling Stone in a section called “The best characters in TV.”

He recalls in an interview kids shouting “Fag!” or “Freak!” in the hallway at school.

“When you’re in that situation, you learn to think on your feet. I’d always respond, ‘Delinquent!’ or some other word they couldn’t understand.”

The article tells us that Chris grew up in Clovis, California (near Fresno) which he describes as “conservative, hot and flat.” His parents were die-hard Republicans who sent him to Jesus camp and took him to the local rodeo dressed “in these horrible, horrible little cowboy outfits. I still can’t listen to country music without recalling my trauma.”

He hit the bad luck trifecta in school: fat, braces, gay: “I was the bottom of the food chain. Very, very frumpy.”

Of Kurt he said: “I would just like to see him be happy and to keep inspiring the kids that watch him. … I see these gay characters on other programs, and they’re always loud and flamboyant. In high school – especially in a conservative town – someone wouldn’t be like that. That’s why I made Kurt more internal and superior, rather than external and annoying.”

Chris, who graduated from high school himself just over two years ago, enrolled in Fresno City College and would drive down to Los Angeles for auditions. He quickly landed Glee and worried what the folks back in Clovis would think of him playing a gay teen – he was not yet publicly out himself: “I’m glad I had that fear because it made the character that much more real.”
