Kelly Osbourne’s New Material Girl Ads

In her ads as the new face of Madonna and daughter Lourdes Leon’s clothing line, Material Girl, Kelly Osbourne is showing off her colorful side — and both Kelly and Lourdes are talking to People magazine about their fashion favorites for the upcoming spring season.

“The military jacket. I love that and I put it with a bunch of badges on it to make it my own, too,” Leon said recently, whereas Osbourne points to the accessories. “The shoes–there’s a pair of nude heels that I’m really obsessed with,” Osbourne gushed. “There’s so much stuff in it that’s so me and what I wear. There’s a leopard dress that I get to wear next that I’m excited about. I love prints,” she said.

When it comes to clothes for warmer weather, it’s shorts for spring that are all the rage for the girls. “I’m like obsessed with them,” said Lourdes. But one of the greatest things about the line, Osbourne observes, is that it’s accessible to everyone. “There’s not many other companies besides Material Girl that do clothes at an affordable price that are high fashion and [are] what people see in the magazines and can emulate themselves without having to go and spend $1000 on a dress,” she said.

And one of the most important aspects of the line for 14 year old Lourdes was making sure that other girls her age could buy great clothes without breaking the bank. “I don’t go out and buy all of these expensive [clothes]…so it’s good for my friends. It’s good for everybody and it’s good clothing, too.”

Madonna Happy to Let Daughter Lourdes Take the Lead in Material Girl Line

It was a night of lace tights, skirts, and mother-daughter bonding for Madonna and daughter Lourdes Leon, 13, as they celebrated the launch of their Material Girl clothing line Wednesday night at Macy’s Herald Square in New York City.

Despite being a fashion icon, Madonna was content to take a backseat when it came to choosing the items for the Material Girl girl.

“Lola did most of the work. I just kind of hung out in the background and went, ‘That’s nice,’ but she pretty much did all of the work. I was just overseeing it,” she said.

But when your mom is Madonna and you’re creating a fashion line for teenage girls, it isn’t always that simple. “There are some definite pieces [inspired by my mom]. The tulle skirt because that’s like her thing—she made that. The necklaces, the gloves, the lace tights, the combat boots…that tough girly thing,” Lourdes told People Magazine.

As for the items in Mom’s closet that she covets most? “All of her shoes are ridiculous! I love to try on her [Christian] Louboutins,” she said.

Also on hand for the celebration was Material Girl face Taylor Momsen. “It was such an honor to be chosen by Madonna and Lola. They’re such talented people and I’m just ecstatic,” gushed the Gossip Girl star.

The night concluded with the three ladies gathering on the fourth floor of Macy’s, as dancers performed and a DJ spun many of Madonna’s songs.

“Lola has been so inspiring and it’s been so great to watch her focus, her determination.” Madonna said. “I’ve achieved many things in my life, but I have to say watching my daughter make her dreams come true and achieve her goals is more exciting than anything I’ve ever done

Madonna Slapped with Material Girl Lawsuit

Talk about a fashion don’t!

Madonna is being sued over the rights to use the “Material Girl” name for the trendy juniors clothing line that she designed with daughter Lourdes.

Apparel manufacturer LA Triumph slapped the superstar with a lawsuit Thursday, claiming that it had been marketing clothes under the “Material Girl” brand since 1997.

“Our client and its predecessor have been continually selling similar clothes in similar retail outlets at similar price points under their Material Girl brand since at least 1997 and Madonna and her newfound company do not have the right to trade in the same space under this brand,” said an attorney with firm One LLP, alleging that their client faces “a risk of being subsumed by Madonna’s profile, obvious worldwide notoriety” and massive marketing campaign.

Madonna’s much-buzzed-about Material Girl collection, fronted by Gossip Girl star Taylor Momsen, launched at Macy’s earlier this month.

Madonna has not yet commented.

Madonna Dishes on Blogger Daughter Lourdes’ Material Girl Style

Ask Madonna for fashion advice, and she just might refer you to her 13-year-old, Lourdes Leon (aka “Lola”), who, according to her mother, is “much more fashion-forward and savvy than I am at this point.”

Now the teenager and fashion-lover is sharing her natural style acumen as a blogger, posting her first musings recently on http://www.materialgirlcollection.com/, the site for the juniors clothing line that the mother-daughter duo are designing together.

”I am totally obsessivo about 80′s shorts,” writes Lola. “You know the kind that makes your butt look kinda big, with a grunge-looking shirt tucked in.”

And the tweenager has certainly put her stamp on Material Girl’s debut collection, which includes ’80s-inspired pieces like a sleeveless biker vest, plaid shirts, floral miniskirts, and high-waist shorts–all meant to be layered and mixed together.

Macy's to Close 11 Stores & Cuts Forecast

Macy's Inc said on Thursday it will close 11 stores that are performing badly in the recession as it also cut its quarterly profit and sales forecasts due to steep markdowns during the holiday season.

On Nov. 28, Chief Executive Terry Lundgren told Reuters that Macy's typically closes as many as 10 underperforming stores a year and expected to do the same in 2009.

"These closings are part of our normal-course process to prune underperforming locations each year in order to maintain a healthy portfolio of stores," Lundgren said in a statement on Thursday.

Macy's is shutting stores in nine states, including two each in Colorado and Pennsylvania.

Stores to be closed are located in:
- Ernst & Young Plaza (Citicorp Plaza), Los Angeles, CA
- The Citadel, Colorado Springs, CO
- Westminster Mall, Westminster, CO
- Palm Beach Mall, West Palm Beach, FL
- Mauna Lani Bay Hotel, Island of Hawaii, HI
- Lafayette Square, Indianapolis, IN
- Brookdale Center, Brooklyn Center, MN
- Crestwood Mall, St. Louis, MO
- Natrona Heights Plaza, Natrona Heights, PA
- Century III Furniture and Clearance, West Mifflin, PA
- Bellevue Center, Nashville, TN

Shares of Macy's, which also owns the Bloomingdale's chain, were down 0.4 percent at $11.26 after falling as low as $10.75.

Macy's sales at stores open at least a year fell 4 percent in December, better than the analysts' average forecast for a 5.3 percent decline, according to Thomson Reuters Estimates.

Macy's expects such sales to fall about 7.5 percent in the quarter, which runs from November through January, versus prior expectations for a 1 percent to 6 percent decline.

The company plans to record about $65 million in costs due to the store closings, including about $12 million in cash costs. Most of the costs will be booked in the fourth quarter.

Macy's expects to earn 90 cents to $1.00 per share in the fourth quarter, excluding certain items, down from its earlier target of $1.10 to $1.30 per share.

For the year it forecast earnings of $1.10 to $1.20 per share, excluding items, down from an earlier target of $1.30 to $1.50 per share.

Macy's expects to end the fourth quarter with more than $1 billion in cash on hand and no borrowings against its $2 billion bank credit agreement.
