While most of the guest judges who appear on American Idol come away with a nicer image of Simon Cowell once they work with him, Ellen DeGeneres says his reputation is well earned."I had one idea of Simon when I came in, and it's changed," she told an Entertainment Tonight camera crew during an Idol photo shoot. "He's actually meaner than I thought. ... It's hard to listen to him tell people things and me not to go, 'You poor thing!'"
Ellen says she's had to get used to how hard it is to give "eye-opening" judgments to the Idol contestants' faces, but she's getting used to the process.
"I'm getting good at delivering bad news, myself, but I'm trying to do it in a tender way. ... I hate hurting people's feelings, so that, I think, is the hardest part."
Ellen also says she's going to fight "very, very hard" for the contestants she thinks are the best. Ellen will make her much-anticipated Idol debut next Tuesday, February 9th.
