Sandra Bullock returned to the spotlight on Sunday to accept a top honor at the MTV Movie Awards - and to share a shocking kiss with Scarlett Johansson.
The Oscar winner, who stepped away from the public eye in the weeks after her husband Jesse James' infidelity was exposed in the press, was brought onstage by Johansson and her former co-stars Betty White (The Proposal) and Bradley Cooper (All About Steve) to accept the MTV Generation Award.
The honour is given to movie stars who have provided entertainment to young audiences over the last two decades.
Bullock, who received a standing ovation, told the crowd: "Sit down, we're on a time limit, people. It's live, we're on live television."
She then thanked presenters White and Cooper, joking: "I'd like to thank Bradley for still being my friend given the only film he's been in that bombed was the one that I made. I'd like to thank Betty for being such an extraordinary woman. I love her more every day and it's not just for her extraordinary work but for the person she is and the life she lives and I want your life."
Bullock proceeded to make light of rumors she's planning to quit acting by quipping, "So the Generation Award - is that an award for old people that have extended their welcome so we should make nice and leave so someone new can come in? Because that's not going to happen, I'm staying. Because no matter what you may have seen or heard or read lately I love what I do and I'm not going anywhere."
She then shared an awkward moment with Johansson, who confessed Bullock was her favourite to take home the Best Kiss trophy, which was won by Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson earlier in the evening.
A blushing Bullock gushed, "It was a really nice kiss and that's nice of you to (say)," prompting Johansson to step forward and plant a kiss on her lips, sending the crowd into an uproar.
But the actress was quick to silence the audience, making reference to her personal life: "Now that we have done that, can we please go back to normal? Because therapy is really expensive."
Bullock's MTV Movie Award appearance came just one day after she showed up at the Guys Choice Awards in Los Angeles, where she picked up the Troops Choice Award for Entertainer of The Year, voted for by members of the military.
Bullock is the first female to pick up the MTV Generation Award honor.
ABBA, Genesis, Jimmy Cliff, the Hollies and the Stooges will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next year, the Hall of Fame Foundation has announced. But the biggest news might be who did not make the cut.
Kiss, nominated for the first time this year after being snubbed for a decade, was left out of the honors, although if the experience of the Stooges is any guide, there might be better luck next time: the band was nominated and rejected seven times before being accepted.
Also being honored this year, as nonperformers, are David Geffen and seven songwriters: Barry Mann and Cynthia Weill, Ellie Greenwich and Jeff Barry, Jesse Stone, Mort Shuman and Otis Blackwell.The 25th annual induction ceremony will be held on March 15 at the Waldorf-Astoria in Manhattan.
If Kiss has it their way, they'll get to "rock & roll all nite" in music's greatest home: the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The band has been eligible for years but this is the first they have been nominated along with Jimmy Cliff, Genesis, LL Cool J, ABBA, the Chantels and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. "It's a real honor to be nominated in our first year of eligibility. Obviously the Hall of Fame has excellent musical taste," Chili Pepper drummer Chad Smith told Billboard.
The acts gain a shot at the Hall of Fame 25 years after their first single or album. A group of more than 500 musicians and music professionals will vote on the group, and winners will be honored at the Waldorf Astoria in New York on March 15th.
The Hall of Fame is also having a 25th anniversary concerts on October 29th and 30th at New York's Madison Square Garden, and will be releasing the book "The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: The First 25 Years" along with a nine-DVD boxed set, "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Live."
Sean Penn, who is to star in new film Milk, has shared an on-screen kiss with co-star James Franco.
The actor was reportedly so excited about his first gay kiss that he sent a text message to Madonna about it.
Mr Penn and Madonna were married in 1985 but divorced four years later.
Mr Franco said: "After our kiss, Sean texted Madonna and said, 'I just popped my cherry kissing a guy. I thought of you. I don't know why.'"
Mr Penn also has to kiss Mart Martinez in the film. Of the kiss, Mr Martinez said: "I'm performing, and Sean comes onto the dance floor. He grabs me, and he just slaps the biggest kiss on me.
"It felt like the kiss was forever. I'm like, 'Is he going to stop?' I had to close my eyes, I just couldn't believe it!"
