Katie Holmes to Play Jacqueline Kennedy

She's one of Hollywood's most famous faces, but Katie Holmes will soon be one of the country's most famous first ladies – at least on the small screen.

The actress has signed on to star in The Kennedys, an eight-hour mini series premiering in 2011 on the History Channel, as Jacqueline Kennedy, alongside Greg Kinnear, British actor Tom Wilkinson and Barry Pepper, the network said Wednesday.

Kinnear, who was most recently seen in The Last Song with Miley Cyrus, stars as President John F. Kennedy, while Pepper will play the role of Robert Kennedy. Wilkinson, who played Benjamin Franklin in 2008's John Adams, will portray Joe Kennedy Sr.

Katie Holmes has been tipped for a role in the next Sex And The City movie, playing a feisty businesswoman in the upcoming sequel.

Film bosses are currently putting together a follow-up to the hit 2008 picture, which was based on the long running TV show.

Shooting is expected to get underway later this year and Holmes is rumored to be in negotiations to join the cast, as a rival to Kim Cattrall's maneating character Samantha.

A source stated, "The character they want her to play is a really ballsy, high-powered company executive who tangles with Samantha."

The film is slated for a May 2010 release.

Reps for the FOX show will neither confirm nor deny that Holmes will strut her stuff this season in a Broadway number choreographed by SYTYCD judge Tyce Diorio, who is known for his colorful and difficult numbers.

But one thing is for sure: Holmes has met with the show’s executive producer Nigel Lythgoe on more than one occasion. “They had a couple meetings,” Lythgoe’s rep told People. “He meets with people all the time.”

The rep also notes that Holmes uses the facilities at the CBS studios where the show is taped to rehearse when she’s in town.

“She’s on Broadway,” the rep adds, “so she dances.”

Holmes, who appeared in the Broadway revival of Arthur Miller’s All My Sons, was recently photographed at the studios in Los Angeles, clad in dance gear.

Her husband Tom Cruise and their daughter Suri, 3, were also recently spotted at the studios.
