John Barrowman's Painful Hair Removal

John Barrowman suffered painful burns on his most sensitive area - after he used hair removal cream on his private parts.

The former Desperate Housewives star decided to tidy up his lower regions so he applied the lotion and then covered up by putting his underwear back on.

But when he undressed for bed hours later, he accidentally ripped off a layer of skin - leaving him writhing in agony.

Barrowman tells U.K. TV show Loose Women, "I did it with the cream and I put on my undies and I left it for the day. That evening, I was getting ready for bed and I took my undies off and I took off a layer of skin with it. So, men - don't do it on your things!

"It was very painful. It was like having an acid peel in the wrong place."

John Barrowman: 'Desperate Housewives Are Naughty Divas'

Actor John Barrowman is hoping writers bring his Desperate Housewives character back from the dead - because he's already missing the leading ladies' naughty, diva antics.

The Scottish-born actor played Drea de Matteo's ex-boyfriend Patrick Logan in five episodes of the drama and admits he could write a revealing book based on what he witnessed on set.

And now he's dreaming of an unlikely return to Wisteria Lane - the fictional address of the Housewives.

He tells Britain's 5 O'Clock Show, "Actually they were nothing but generous to me - that's not to say that things don't go on. I spent most time with Eva (Longoria Parker) and Drea de Matteo and we had a wonderful time.

"Eva Longoria's got a naughty sense of humor like I do. But you know, things happen on long-running shows and all the sagas that go on, so obviously there's a bit of diva-ness that goes on there. And why not?... I know (my character's) been blown up and I'm dead but I would like to work again for them."

John Barrowman Feared Backlash Over Haiti Adoption Plans

Actor John Barrowman considered adopting an child orphaned by the Haiti earthquake - but feared he would be lambasted for following in the footsteps of Angelina Jolie and Madonna.

The gay star was so upset when he saw footage of children who had been left parent-less following the disaster in January, he discussed adopting a young Haitian with his partner Scott.

But after much consideration, Barrowman abandoned his adoption plans over fears he would be criticised by the media for jumping on the foreign adoption "bandwagon".

He told The Sunday Telegraph, "With all the kids who've been orphaned out there (Haiti), I said to Scott, we could really help. Then I thought to myself, if I did that, the press would jump on it. That I'm on a bandwagon, and I'd be an Angelina and a Brad, or I'm doing what Madonna did. But if you're going to adopt a child, you should look at adopting in your own country first, because there are a lot of children within the U.K. who need to be adopted. So if that was ever to happen, I would want to adopt from the U.K. and if there were still children who needed a home, say, in Haiti, then we'd do that. We can offer a child a loving home and a great opportunity they would never have had."

Jolie has adopted three children from abroad; Maddox from Cambodia, Pax from Vietnam and Ethiopian-born Zahara, while Madonna adopted David and Mercy, both from Malawi

John Barrowman’s Upcoming Showtunes Album

Is there anything this talented, gorgeous man cannot do?

John Barrowman, the star of BBC’s Dr. Who who also has had a thriving musical theater career on Broadway and on London’s West End, is set to release the third solo album of his career on March 1st.

It’s a self-titled effort that features some really terrific songs from Broadway musicals including Memory from Cats, The Winner Takes It All from Mamma Mia, My Eyes Adored You and Oh What a Night from Jersey Boys and one of my absolute favorites: You’ll Never Walk Alone from Carousel.

Sounds like a winner to me!

John Barrowman Set to Play a Bad Guy on Desperate Housewives This Season

British Actor, John Barrowman had tried, without success, to make it in US prime-time television with the mid-90s CBS soap Central Park West then about five years later with NBC’s short-lived Titans. Both were star-studded Dynasty knockoffs that did not click with the public.

Well now news comes that Barrowman, who stuck gold with Torchwood in the UK, is joining an established hit, Desperate Housewives. The show will be all the more delicious for his presence.

The Daily Mail reports that Barrowman will fly to Los Angeles in March to film several episodes. He will be the show’s main villain in the last section of the current season.

No word yet on who his character will be inter-connecting with on the hit show. Hopefully they decided on a juicy storyline with the resident gay couple, Bob (Tuc Watkins) and Lee (Kevin Rahm).

Gay Actor John Barrowman Told by TV Bosses to Stay in the Closet

Gay Torchwood star John Barrowman has revealed his anger at being told by his bosses he should keep his sexuality a secret.

In his autobiography "I Am What I Am, published today, he said he was warned early in his career he should pretend to be straight in order to achieve success.

Barrowman claimed a gay producer was sent by his bosses to give him the warning. He claimed the producer said: “John, we wondered if you really wanted to reveal that you’re gay? We think it might change how people feel about you.”

The actor said he replied “I really hope you’re not saying this, because I’m not going in the closet for you or anyone. You’ve hired me to be a professional, not to have sex. Being a gay man has nothing to do with my abilities on this show.”

Remembering the exchange, Barrowman said: “The incident was even more offensive because they sent a gay producer to discuss this with me, as if somehow this would ease the blow."

He has not identified which production company told him to stay in the closet but according to The Times, he has worked for the BBC, ITV and Five as well as the American networks CBS and NBC. All have denied telling him to keep quiet.

Barrowman said he had received an apology over the incident but added: “One of my explicit missions as an entertainer is to work to create a world where no one will ever make a statement like this producer did to me to anyone who’s gay."

John Barrowman Loves Nude Sunbathing

Actor John Barrowman has a secret beauty regime - he likes sunbathing naked.

The Torchwood star insists stripping off in hot weather is "liberating", but only indulges his saucy hobby at the seaside - and he is always careful to use plenty of sunblock on the more sensitive areas of his body.

Speaking on U.K. TV show Loose Women, he says, "It's not so much about naturism, for me it's more nude sunbathing. I think nude sunbathing is fantastic. There is nothing more liberating than taking all your clothes off and lying in the sun... on the beach! I'm not going to go to a supermarket or go shopping!"

Asked if he has any tips to minimise risks, Barrowman replied: "Factor 45! Factor 50!"

John Barrowman’s New “Music Music Music” CD

Almost exactly a year after the release of his first easy listening album, Another Side, openly gay Torchwood star John Barrowman, has returned with a new album titled Music Music Music.

Released today in the UK via Sony BMG, it has some similarities with his debut effort: again, it consists mostly of covers of classic pop and musical theater songs, with a little country added for good measure. But there’s one new development that may be pleasing to his fans: Barrowman has considerably upped the gay content.

The first indication of this came back in September, when the video for the album’s one original song, "What About Us" hit the web. Although artists from Christina Aguilera to t.A.T.u. have made use of same-sex kissing in their videos, “What About Us” breaks new ground with its matter-of-fact portrayal of a gay male couple living out their lives in parallel with a straight couple – particularly given that the song is sung by an openly gay artist.

It certainly makes a change from the video for Barrowman’s “All Out Of Love” last year, which showed him singing directly to camera in a succession of different shirts, with no actual partner in sight.

The album also sees former London West End performer Barrowman tackling two explicitly gay musical theater songs with gusto. One of them is “I Am What I Am” from La Cage aux Folles – a song originally performed by drag queen character Albin at the end of the first act. With defiant, yet tongue-in-cheek lines like “so what if I love each feather and each spangle" and “it’s time to open up your closet, ” the song is a perfect match with Barrowman’s open, enthusiastic, and unapologetic persona.

The highlight of the album, both in gay and in musical terms, is Barrowman’s duet of the Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson-penned song “I Know Him So Well” from the musical Chess. Released in 1985 as a single featuring the voices of Elaine Page and Barbara Dickson, the track was originally intended as a heterosexual love song performed by a chess champion’s estranged wife and his mistress.

Barrowman enlisted the duetting talents of openly gay British musical theater performer Daniel Boys (who first came to the general public’s attention when he appeared in the reality talent competition Any Dream Will Do in 2007 – where, incidentally, he provided one of the series’ few gay moments, holding hands with fellow contestant Lewis Bradley as they went in front of judge Andrew Lloyd Webber to hear which of them had been eliminated).

The result is unlike anything you may have heard on a mainstream album before, as two successful openly gay men sing in gender-specific terms about the end of an affair with their mutual flame: “Wasn’t he fine?” sighs Boys, while Barrowman, with typical sexual energy, growls back “Wasn’t he fine?” It’s like hearing two old friends put their feet up and compare notes over a drink at their favorite gay bar.

Boys joins Barrowman and two other previous Any Dream Will Do contestants, Keith Jack and Ben James-Ellis, for a playful, jazzed-up version of Billy Joel’s “Uptown Girl” which is another one of the album’s better tracks. Given how alive Barrowman can sound on upbeat numbers, it’s just a shame that here, as on Another Side, at least half of the album is weighed down by so-so renditions of sentimental ballads. Sarah McLachlan’s “Angel”, Julie Gold’s “From A Distance”, Keith Urban’s “You’ll Think Of Me, ” and Richard Marx’s “Right Here Waiting For You.

He fares great with two other slow-paced songs, Barry Manilow’s “I Made It Through The Rain” and Joni Mitchell’s “Both Sides Now”, both of which attractively showcase his clear, soaring voice. Perhaps it’s his potential to go over-the-top with upbeat tracks that has led Sony to steer him away from them, since in “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” (a song that has previously been covered by artists as diverse as Andy Williams and Lauryn Hill), he goes blaringly full-throttle, summoning up more the image of someone shouting through a megaphone than any romantic intimacy.

The one of the final tracks on the album, a high-camp version of “You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me”, complete with dramatic horns and backing vocalists wailing “ooh” and “aah, ” does nothing to replace the classic rendition by Dusty Springfield – although it does, again, do something to up the album’s gay factor. Overall, Music Music Music is a mixed bag, probably lending itself better to use as a CD you have on in the background than to intense and focused listening – but “I Know Him So Well” does make it stand out.
