Lady Gaga Loves Glee!

Hot on the heels of the Madonna episode, Glee paid tribute to Lady Gaga Tuesday, drawing praise from the often-imitated star.

“I love Glee,” the singer told Entertainment Weekly. “I went to a musical theatre school, and used to dream that someday the students would be singing my songs.”

Tuesday's episode saw New Directions do just that, when the club’s female vocalists — and Kurt — donned some of Gaga’s most memorable looks to rock the auditorium with “Bad Romance.”

But it was Rachel’s duet with Shelby of “Poker Face” that stole the show — a shared final moment between the mother-daughter pair after Shelby came clean about being unprepared for full-time motherhood.

And what did Broadway vet Idina Menzel think of tackling the showstopper?

“I don’t channel Lady Gaga,” Menzel told MTV. “I’m just in awe of Lady Gaga.”

Idina Menzel Spills Glee Secrets –- Sort Of

Broadway star Idina Menzel whetted the appetite of Glee fans when she appeared on the hit show earlier this season, but her brief guest spot -– playing the leader of rival glee club Vocal Adrenaline –- raised more questions than answers.

“There is much more to her than has been revealed in the first episode that I was in,” the actress, who made out with recording artist Matthew Morrison‘s character Will Schuester, tells E! Online. “I will say that her intentions are not quite evil. She’s going to unravel more and show a different side to her personality.”

Whether she’s planning to sabotage the McKinley High glee club or to romance Mr. Schuester, the bigger question is: What is her relationship to influential person Lea Michele, who has a striking resemblance to Menzel?

For months fans have speculated that Menzel will play Michele’s biological mother, a character who has so far been absent from the show.

“Maybe I’m going to be Lea’s lesbian lover,” Menzel jokes. “You never know!” However, she adds, “That would probably be really inappropriate because she’s playing [a character who is] 16.”

In fact, Menzel says the writers have created a “nice resolution for my character at the end of the season,” but she could still be back for more.

“I don’t fall into a hole and break every bone in my body or something,” she says. “I don’t know if I’ll be back. I would certainly love to and they have discussed it.”

A Glee Romance: Will Emma and Will Couple Up?

Get ready for a full-blown Gleek-out! Not only are the stars of the FOX’s hit musical comedy singing about plot twists and guest stars — Olivia Newton-John! Idina Menzel! More Kristin Chenoweth! — the show’s launching a nationwide talent search to add gifted future stars to the cast.

FOX executives have revealed that in February, the network will begin scouring the country for undiscovered talent between, ages 16 to 26, to fill three new roles in the show’s newly announced season 2. The search will be documented in a multi-part reality special, which will culminate in the unveiling of the new cast members on Glee’s season premiere in the fall.

“We were going to do a nationwide search regardless,” FOX president Kevin Reilly told reporters Monday, noting that some of the original cast, like Chris Colfer, were discovered that way. “So we decided to let the audience in as a part of that. There will not be formal voting. The audience will not decide, but the audience will certainly participate. They will give us their opinions on who they want and who they like.”

READY FOR ROMANCE?

When Glee returns April 13th, will choir director Will (Matthew Morrison), who was distraught after discovering his wife Terri (Jessalyn Gilsig) faked her pregnancy, be on a fast track to romance with guidance counselor Emma (Jayma Mays)?

Not so fast, says Mays, who attended FOX’s Winter TCA party. “[Series creator] Ryan Murphy said that it’s his job as a writer to keep us apart,” she says. “I was like, ‘Actually, you know what? That’s right and that makes sense.’ Otherwise people won’t have anything to root for. Practically speaking, Emma’s a smart girl and she’s a practical girl, and so she wouldn’t jump into a relationship with a man that’s technically not even separated.”

On the other side of the romantic triangle, Gilsig hints that she may be exploring Terri’s more vulnerable side — possibly through song. “I think it’s going to happen,” says Gilsig. “I never say it’s done until we’ve shot it. I want just a little softer side of Terri … We’ll let her have a life outside of this panic that she was in. [But] I don’t think she’s ever going to turn into Emma. I think she’ll always have an edge.”

Meanwhile, the show choir’s internal dramas will continue to heat up McKinley High. Dianna Agron said her ex-Cheerio character Quinn is “still pregnant and just focusing on moving past the ‘woe is me’ moments of being pregnant, so it’s fun again! She’s back to her old spunky ways and we’re learning so much more about all the characters, whether it be at home with their families or in the school.”

GUEST STARS GALORE

In addition to more of Chenoweth, who appeared earlier this season as former glee-club star April Rhodes, the cast is excited to be joined by Menzel and Newton-John. Of former Wicked star Menzel, Cory Monteith says, “I haven’t gotten to meet her yet but she’s around. I could sense her extremely talented presence somewhere on set today.” But will Menzel being playing the birth mother of Rachel, as has been speculated due to her strong resemblance to series star Lea Michele? “No, not Lea’s mom,” declares Gilsig cryptically. “It’s going to be interesting.”

And Jane Lynch reveals that the show’s arch villainess, Cheerios coach Sue Sylvester, will perform a duet with another amazing guest star: “I have two songs this season,” Lynch says. “One is ‘Let’s Get Physical’ with Olivia Newton-John.”

Lynch is already plotting out her first meeting with the iconic star of Grease. “I’m going to treat it just like how I treated working with Carol Burnett, which almost made me have an aneurysm,” she said. “You just go there and you relax and you don’t ask any questions and you try to be as normal as possible. Carol Burnett was so lovely. By the end of it, we were friends and she had told me a bunch of stories without me even asking, because I was like a crazy sycophant-type person. My plan is the same with Olivia Newton-John. I’m just going to be as normal as I can be.”

Wicked Star Idina Menzel Not Coming to Glee, Yet!

Gleeks have been geeking out over the possibility of Broadway star Idina Menzel sweeping her way onto the hit FOX show Glee, but don’t get your broomsticks out just yet.

“I don’t know what I’m doing with Idina yet,” show creator Ryan Murphy said at a Hollywood Radio and Television Society panel on Wednesday. “I just met with her once. It sort of got leaked, but I haven’t plotted it out yet.”

Menzel, who originated the role of Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West in the hit Broadway musical Wicked, and Lea Michele, the actress who plays Rachel Berry on Glee and sang Wicked’s signature number “Defying Gravity,” look a lot alike, a fact not lost on Menzel nor her husband, Private Practice star Taye Diggs, who recently said, “We knew that [resemblance] existed far, far before the TV world did.” That resemblance has some hoping the Tony-winner will play the biological mother of Rachel, who is the proud daughter of two gay dads.

While fans will have to wait to see what, if anything, Murphy comes up with, Glee will ease on down the road for Kristin Chenoweth, who played Glinda the Good Witch in Wicked. Chenoweth will return as former McKinley High glee club star April Rhodes in the spring.

“I know Kristin has a huge episode,” Murphy said. “She’s coming back because we write that for her, but there are some other people coming that I can’t say, but they are big music people, so I’m very excited!”

Wicked’s Idina Menzel Would ‘Love’ to be on Glee

Following a guest stint by her Broadway costar Kristin Chenoweth and Glee club captain Rachel’s (Lea Michele) show-stopping rendition of “Defying Gravity” (from the hit musical Wicked), it seems Broadway’s original green witch, Idina Menzel, may pay a visit to McKinley High.

“I know that she would love [to guest star on Glee],” Menzel’s husband, Private Practice star Taye Diggs told Fancast of the Gleek community’s desire to see the Tony-winner play the biological mother of Rachel, who is the proud daughter of two gay dads.

Adding that Michele — who originated the role of Wendla in the Broadway play Spring Awakening — and Menzel are “fans of each other,” Diggs acknowledged the pair’s uncanny resemblance, saying “We knew that existed far, far before the TV world did.”

A Broadway vet himself, having starred in Rent opposite his future wife, Diggs praised the caliber of Glee’s singing and dancing cast, saying he and his wife TiVo the show every week, and “are just so happy to see a lot of these theater kids get the opportunity to do some television work.”
