As Desperate Housewives said goodbye to resident bombshell Edie Britt in this week's episode, a character from the past is returning at the end of the season.
“A major character from the first two seasons will be featured in the last five minutes of the season finale,” series creator Marc Cherry hinted during a panel discussion Saturday at the Paley Center for Media’s Annual William S. Paley Television Festival. “The cast doesn’t even know who.” Could it be Gaby’s boy-toy gardener, played by Jesse Metcalfe? Cherry’s sly smile revealed little, but the crowd cheered at the possibility.
Other Housewives dish revealed by Cherry and the cast:
• After suffering serious injuries from a motorcycle accident, Gale Harold returns to the series on May 3rd. “He came back to the set not too long ago, and he looks better than he did when he left,” Cherry said of the now-healthy Howard, who almost got cast as Mike Delfino’s brother instead of Susan’s boyfriend, Jackson.
• Jackson may be back in the picture, and rumor has it that Mike will propose to Katherine, but don’t rule out a Mike and Susan reconciliation…one day. “I would imagine at some point in the time continuum Susan and Mike will find their way back to each other,” Cherry said, as Teri Hatcher gave the thumbs up.
• Eva Longoria Parker liked playing a less-glam Gaby at the beginning of the season because it meant less time in hair and makeup, but there were drawbacks. “The crazy thing was people kept saying I was pregnant in real life… no matter how many times I said [that I’m not pregnant],” said Longoria Parker. “That was the annoying thing because I was either pregnant or just fat.”
• Mrs. McCluskey’s Kathryn Joosten will never suffer a fate like Edie’s because she and Cherry have a pact. Since the actress has been killed off so many other shows, Cherry told her “in a moment of sort of feeling bad …’Well, I’ll never kill you off.’ I made [the promise], and she’s the one character who will never be killed off of the show.”
