We are the World 25 - Debut Video

At last night's Winter Olympic opening ceremonies, the video for the latest version of "We Are the World" debuted. Here it is for your enjoyment.



The recording for "We are the World 25" consisted of an impressive group of artists including Kanye West, Jennifer Hudson, Pink, Fergie, Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion, Janet Jackson, and more.

The original "We are the World" was written by Michael Jackson, who also appears on this video. This new recording, to benefit the Haiti earthquake victims, was made on February 1st, the day after the Grammy Awards.

Nelly Furtado & Sarah McLachlan Likely at WInter Olympics Opening

The 2010 Winter Olympics may be lacking snow, but that hasn't stopped the leaks.

The first names of likely opening-ceremony performers have filtered out, thanks to spies at the rehearsals and a commercial for the Vancouver Games that aired during Saturday Night Live.

Canadians Nelly Furtado, Sarah McLachlan and Bryan Adams all seem a lock for tonight's opening ceremony. Best bets are also rockers Rush and jazz singer Nikki Yanofsky, also both Canadians. The '80s band Devo will be among the bands performing at the Games' medal ceremonies.

So far no word on Shania Twain nor other Canadian faves Avril Lavigne or Celine Dionl.

The new all-star "We Are the World" video for Haiti earthquake relief will also air during Friday's Olympic coverage.

The Winter Olympics opening ceremony will be televised tonight starting at 7:30 pm (ET) on NBC.

Lady Gaga is Raising Money for Haiti

Lady Gaga couldn’t take part in the charity single for Haiti "We Are The World," so she's doing her own thing.

She said: “I’ve been working on my own charity projects for Haiti. We’ve raised over half a million dollars for Haiti already and we like to work specifically with charities that are based in Haiti itself. I donated all of the proceeds from one show worth of ticket sales as well as all of the merchandise from that show and for 24 hours we had a "Gaga for Haiti" day where everything that was bought on the website… every dollar went to Haiti.”

The 23-year-old singer, who is currently in the middle of her Monster’s Ball world tour, claimed to be too busy to appear at the recording of "We Are The World," alongside stars including Justin Timberlake, Jay-Z and Beyonce Knowles, despite speculation she had recorded vocals for the charity track.

She told Access Hollywood: “I’ve actually been in rehearsal for my new tour, but I was never supposed to do "We Are The World." So that’s a rumor. I believe that they may have asked, yes, about it, but I was unable to do it.”

The updated version of "We Are the World" was recorded on Monday at the Los Angeles based Henson Studios. Over 80 singers and actors united to remake this incredible hit 25 years after it's original recording, as a charity to assist those suffering in Haiti from the recent earthquake. Present were: Barbra Streisand, Natalie Cole, Celine Dion, Usher, Jennifer Hudson, Brian Wilson, Kanye West, Josh Grobin, Lionel Richie, Gladys Knight, Harry Connick Jr., Enrique Iglesias, The Jonas Brothers, Adam Levine, Jamie Foxx and many more.

New "We Are The World" Has Been Recorded!

We are still the world if Quincy Jones and an all-star squad of contemporary music stars have anything to sing about it.

On Monday, Jones, Lionel Richie and Wyclef assembled what appears to be the entire VIP section from Sunday night's Grammy Awards to re-record the monster selling single, which made $63 Million in sales! Can "We Are The World – 25 For Haiti" bring home that kind of bacon in the Internet Age? In only due time, we will find out.

On Monday night, The Jonas Brothers, T-Pain, Miley Cyrus, Celine Dion, Kanye West, Brian Wilson and dozens of others showed up at Henson Recording Studios, the same studio where the original was recorded 25 years ago.

Last time, the cause was starvation in Africa, in particular the devastating Ethiopian famine of 1984-85. This time it's Haiti, where last month's earthquake killed nearly 200,000 and left as many as 1 million Haitians homeless.

The new line-up of stars performing this incredible hit included Justin Bieber, Lil Wayne, Harry Connick, Jr., Snoop Dogg, Tony Bennett, Barbra Streisand (rumor has it she gets a solo), Josh Groban, Usher, and Jeff Bridges.

Along with Bridges, plenty of other A-listers "lend a helping hand" and their voices which will grace the music single and video, directed by Paul Haggis ('Crash,' 'In the Valley of Elah'). The video is set to air on NBC during the Friday, February 12th Opening Ceremony of the Vancouver Winter Olympics.

Nicole Richie tweeted her excitement. "I was 4 years old in a studio watching my dad record We Are The World, & today I get to do it again," she wrote Monday afternoon.

The elder Richie spent two weeks in 1985 at Michael Jackson's Encino estate penning the track with the King of Pop. Quincy Jones, who also has a famous daughter involved in the remake – Rashida Jones, produced the song along with Grammy-winning producer Michael Omartian.

As of 2009, 20 million copies of "We Are the World" have been sold, making it the best-selling single of all-time.

No Michael Jackson this time. No Kenny Loggins, Tina Turner, Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder, Bob Dylan or Paul Simon either. At least that's the word as of now.

Several stand-ins were present at Monday's shoot whose silhouettes will reportedly be replaced by famous counterparts in post-production.

Could it be that original supergroup members Bette Middler, Dan Akroyd and Cyndi Lauper got a 21st century encore? We think not.

We'll have to wait until February 12th to find out who else performed. Stay tuned!

Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie are planning to re-record “We Are The World” 25 years after its original release!

The industry legends are currently gathering talent to record the song together on Monday, February 1st, just after the Grammy Awards.

Usher and John Legend have already been invited to participate and Sting, Fergie, Alicia Keys and Justin Timberlake will all likely be likely in the song.
