Will Ferrell Replacing Steve Carell on The Office?

If there's one guy who can play a worse boss than Steve Carell, it's Will Ferrell -- and the movie star is set to do just that.

Ferrell, a long-time friend and co-star of Carell -- the two featured together in 'Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy' -- will join the workplace comedy for a four episode arc near the end of this season, Deadline.com reports.

Carell's Emmy-winning time on 'The Office' is winding down, and the show has been waiting to reveal his replacement at Dunder Mifflin. Ferrell will play a branch manager that comes in as Carell's Michael Scott begins leaving, and will take over for at least one episode.

"We are proud to continue The Office's tradition of discovering famous talent," 'The Office' show runner Paul Lieberstein (who plays Toby on the show) said, "and we hope that once America gets a good look at Will, they'll see what we see, tremendous raw sexuality."

Farrell and Carell's careers often intertwine: Carell tried out for 'Saturday Night Live,' claiming he lost out to Farrell, and they starred together in 2005's 'Bewitched.'

The Office & Glee Set for Crossover Episode

Producers of The Office are planning a tribute to hit series Glee next month, in a crossover episode dedicated entirely to its characters watching the hit singing series.

Steve Carell, Ellie Kemper, Zach Woods and their characters' Dunder Mifflin co-workers will host a Glee viewing party for the November 11th episode, reports the New York Post.

Executive producer Paul Lieberstein says NBC executives "weren't thrilled" by the idea, even though they didn't axe the tribute.

But Glee creators Ian Brennan, Brad Falchuk and Ryan Murphy happily signed off on featuring The Office stars watching scenes from the hit Fox show.

Lieberstein tells the New York Post, "They're (Glee creators) always so supportive and creatively understanding that when we get really excited about something, they let us do it."

Lieberstein explained he chose Glee because the show has become a pop culture "phenomenon", and he's hoping the tribute will get big laughs, adding, "We watch a lot of TV, we watch 'Glee.' We like it... I don't know - someone said the words 'Glee viewing party', and it just made us laugh so hard that we had to do it."

Steve Carell Says ‘It’s Time’ to Leave The Office

It looks like Dunder Mifflin may soon have to hire a new boss for its Scranton branch.

After more than half a dozen seasons on The Office, Steve Carell hints to E! News that he may not be returning to the hit NBC comedy after its seventh season wraps next year.

“I just think it’s time,” he said at the premiere of his new movie, Despicable Me, Sunday in L.A. “When I first signed on I had a contract for seven seasons, and this coming year is my seventh. I just thought it was time for my character to go.”

But Carell, 47, who plays regional manager Michael Scott on the show, says fans shouldn’t get too worried -– the show will do just fine, maybe even better than before.

“[This might] add some new life and some new energy to the show,” he says about leaving a role that earned him multiple Emmy nominations. “I certainly didn’t anticipate any hubbub over it. I didn’t see it as a huge deal.”

“[The writers],” he adds, “have incorporated so many new characters and so many new, great storylines that I have no doubt it’ll continue as strong if not stronger than ever.”

When reached, NBC had no comment.
