Shrek Stomps All Over Sex At U.S. Box Office

Shrek Forever After has slain the girls from Sex And The City 2 to score a second week at number one in the battle of the U.S. box office.

The animated 3D movie reigned supreme with takings of $43.3 million, beating Sex and the City 2's opening gross of $32.1 million, based on ticket sales over the three-day weekend.

The romantic comedy, starring Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall, grossed an extra $14.2 million from midnight screenings on Wednesday night and showings on Thursday to bring its total up to $46.3 million.

However, the additional sales are not included in the chart tallies for America's Memorial Day weekend and the grand total still falls short of the $56.8 million the original debuted with in 2008.

Jake Gyllenhaal's Disney action/adventure Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time enters at three with $30.1 million, while Iron Man 2 slips to fourth position and Robin Hood rounds out the new top five at five.

How Jake Gyllenhaal Got the Hot Bod – Laughing

Jake Gyllenhaal may have bulked up for his role in The Prince of Persia, but he insists the transformation to Hollywood hardbody was anything but hard.

At Monday's Los Angeles premiere of the new Disney film, a lighthearted Gyllenhaal laughed away concerns about his grueling regimen, insisting that becoming buff was simply part of his job.

"It was so hard," Gyllenhaal said sarcastically. "Being an actor is so hard. Being in shape is so hard, too, and being paid to get into shape is even harder – and you can quote me on all of those."

When it comes to physical training, "I like the focus," he says. "I'm somebody who likes to kind of keep moving. When you're shooting a movie, the downtime is always the hardest thing, and when you get to be physical in between takes it's actually a good thing, I think, for any actor."

Gyllenhaal, 29, was, in fact, inspired by a veteran leading man better known for curling Oscar trophies: "I remember when I worked with Dustin Hoffman – as a wrap gift Dustin gave me a walker to do triceps push-ups on, because that's how he'd get his energy going. Every actor has different tricks, and I thought that it was a great thing. I would go run and jump and do what I could to get excited and ready for the next take and to stay in shape."

And while his shoulders currently aren't quite as big as they are in the movie posters, Gyllenhaal says he has kept up some of his Persia" physique. "You focus on it like an athlete would and it's kind of off-season, but I'm very much a physical and active person. So I like to maintain as much as I can."

Jake Gyllenhaal Hits the Shower to Keep Fit

After bulking up for his role for the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Jake Gyllenhaal‘s body has been sparking equal parts envy and desire — but just like the fabled Samson, the new action star’s strength, it seems, is all in his tousled hair.

“The Jake Gyllenhaal workout plan…starts with growing long, long hair,” the actor jokes with Entertainment Tonight Canada in a recent interview.

“Very long…gorgeous greasy locks and then washing every day….Wash, shampoo, then condition. Washing works the biceps and then the triceps by conditioning. And vigorously rubbing all of your body with soap really defines the abs and the pectoral muscles. And if you do squats while you’re bathing — that’s it!”

Jokes aside, the star also revealed a serious side when it came to getting in prime shape for the role. “It was really important for me to be able to do all the stunts and the things asked of me,” he says of his desire to make a believably stalwart hero.

And while fitness might not have been a favorite topic of discussion in the past, his new sword-wielding role has changed all that. “I wanted to do [this movie] because it was about taking myself a little less seriously and having a good time, and so it’s nice to talk about the things like running and jumping and doing stunts and stuff because that is a huge massive part of this movie and it is what makes this movie so fun to watch.”

But now that the film is premiering around the world, the actor hasn’t quite managed to stick to his hardcore workout routine. “I don’t have any muscles anymore now. It’s all just whittled down to little twigs,” he quips. “I walk around unable to move my arms.”

Sounds like it’s time to break out the conditioner and start lathering up that shampoo!

Jake Gyllenhaal's Amazing Abs in Prince of Persia

Ancient Persia was one hot place.

In newly released images from his summer action movie Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, which opens May 28th, Jake Gyllenhaal shows off a seriously buff bod.

Gyllenhaal, 29, worked hard to bulk up for the role, for which he also trained in parkour (the sport of running, jumping and climbing over obstacles).

"It's a physical role," he told fans at the Wondercon convention in San Francisco earlier this month. "I never did anything this intensive before [to transform my body]. When you are committed, you are committed."

But hey, why not? Said Gyllenhall: "It was so much fun to get paid to get tanned and get in shape."

Jake Gyllenhaal Shows Off 'Action Figure' Bod

Jake Gyllenhaal embodies an action star – literally – in his new movie Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, according to his costar Gemma Arterton.

"He has so much action, but he does really well at it," Arterton says in a video promoting the movie, due in theaters May 28th. "He's a bit of an action figure himself, I think."

Gyllenhaal, 29, who plays the Prince of Dastan, definitely has an action figure physique for his role.

In the flick, Gyllenhaal’s buff character joins forces with a princess, Tamina (Arterton), in medieval Persia to fight a furious leader who is trying to destroy the world by stirring up a devastating sandstorm.

"She realizes that his destiny is actually part of her destiny," says Arterton, 24.

But does Gyllenhaal really believe in fate? He just might. "I think there are signs all along the way throughout our life that tell us things that we can either pay attention to – or not," he says.

The Secret to Jake Gyllenhaal’s Bulging Biceps

Forget the treadmill and free weights. Jake Gyllenhaal, who got noticeably buff for his role in this summer’s Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, has revealed how he got ripped for his role –and a gym membership wasn’t involved.

What is Gyllenhaal’s secret to achieving the hulking build of his character Prince Dastan? The French martial art of Parkour (also known as “freerunning”).

“[I] never did anything this intensive before [to change my body]. It’s a physical role. And when I commit to playing a part, it’s 110 percent,” said the 29-year-old actor. “We worked really closely with David Belle, who invented Parkour. I worked with a lot of gymnasts. I started jumping off of a lot of things that were padded and learned the fundamental stuff, and then slowly started working on harder surfaces, really carefully. And I’d say, ‘OK, I’ll try it,’ and then I’d say, ‘OH GOD. OH, please.’ But then I’d get it, and we’d go a little further and a little longer and a little higher and just kept it up,” explained Gyllenhaal, who did many of his own stunts during filming, even scaring himself at some points.

“It got a little bit dicey there near the end, when they saw that I liked doing things that were dangerous. I tried my hand at things that were pushing it a little bit. There was this big 35 foot jump that I did that got a little hairy.”

So now that the movie’s wrapped, is it just a matter of time before the big guns disappear? Says Gyllenhaal, “I enjoy being active as part of my daily insanity anyway, so I’ll keep doing that.”

Jake Pumps Up to Play Disney's Newest Prince

No Disney magic is required to buff up Jake Gyllenhaal.

As the newly released ad displays, the scruffy hottie is set to heat up screen in May 2010 as Prince Dastan in the studio's Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, based on the video game that's been popular since 1989.

Also starring Alfred Molia (Doc Ock of Spider-Man 2) as Sheik Amar, it tells of a rogue prince (Gyllenhaal) who teams up with a rival princess (Gemma Arterton) to stop an angry ruler (Oscar winner Ben Kingsley) from destroying the mortal world with a mighty sandstorm.

Makes Brokeback Mountain sound like kids' stuff.
