Jude Law Meets New Daughter in Florida

Last week, Jude Law met his new daughter for the first time. The Sherlock Holmes star visited five-month-old Sophia, whose mother is American model Samantha Burke, with his lawyer Maurice Kutner in Florida.

A source said: “Jude was very on edge about the meeting. The pregnancy wasn’t planned but he wants to do the right thing. It’s not like he can hide -- as soon as Sophia can use the internet she can find out who her dad is.”

The 37-year-old star -- who also has three children with ex-wife Sadie Frost -- has reportedly made agreements with Samantha on how Jude will support Sophia, including maintenance payments.

Samantha has been staying in the plush Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Miami, while Jude has stayed in a different residence. She became pregnant after they met in an NYC nightclub while he was filming Sherlock Holmes in December 2008.

The actor is now dating ex-fiancee Sienna Miller, whom he split from in November 2006 following allegations of an affair with his children’s former nanny Daisy Wright.

Jude Law is Tired of Being an 'Adonis'

Jude Law is 37 now, which mean he's almost 40 -- and he says he's reaching the end of his heartthrob screen status. For Jude, this sounds like a blessing in disguise.

He said: “I think it will be interesting to be old. It involves a lot of possibilities. The future doesn't frighten me at all. On the contrary, I am looking forward to it. If I have a look around at the moment I feel great relief because finally others are entering the limelight. Men like Robert Pattinson must now play the Adonis. For me it was always a restraint, a restriction.”

Jude, who has reconciled his romance with one-time fiancée Sienna Miller, insists he never wanted to be known as a hunk and felt the female attention he attracted hampered his career.

The actor said: “My goal was always to be recognized as a good actor but no one was interested in that, simply because society just wants to warm towards your appearance. This is the great blemish of society. When you suddenly appear on the scene and you are the new face, everything centres on you. I experienced this in my mid-20s and I found it rather hard.”

Jude isn’t only looking forward to hitting 40, he is also excited about getting even older. When asked what the best thing about getting older was, he joked to the Sueddeutsche Zeitung newspaper: “That you can take a nap whenever you want and that you can finally say everything you really want to say.”

Brad Pitt for Sherlock Holmes Sequel?

Guy Ritchie is keen to sign up Brad Pitt to star in the sequel to Sherlock Holmes, according to reports.

The director, who worked alongside Pitt in 2000's Snatch, was rumoured to have considered the actor for a cameo role in the new big screen adaptation of the famous detective stories.

But Ritchie is now thought to be eyeing Pitt for the role of Holmes' arch enemy Professor Moriarty in the follow-up movie.

Jude Law and Robert Downey Jr. have both reportedly already signed up for the second installment.

A source tells PopEater.com, "The director, Guy Ritchie, loves Brad. He has worked with him before and thinks he is one of the most underrated actors working today. Guy knows that everyone thinks of as a Pitt as a pretty boy and can't wait to turn him into the world's greatest supervillain. It will definitely make the sequel a must-see."

Jude Law Talks About Finishing Heath Ledger's Final Role

Jude Law says he was humbled personally and professionally to be asked to help take over Heath Ledger's final movie role, which Ledger left unfinished when he died in January 2008.

"When I got the call, it was a double tug," Law says of joining the cast of The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus. "I liked Heath very much as a man and admired him as an actor. To help finish his final piece of work was a tribute I felt compelled to make."

Ledger was in the midst of filming the role of Tony in the fantasy film, directed by Terry Gilliam, when he died from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs in his New York apartment on January 22, 2008, at age 28.

Determined to finish the movie, Gilliam kept Ledger's work intact, and hired Law, Johnny Depp and Colin Farrell to round out the role of Tony – each playing a different incarnation of the character after he steps through a magical mirror.

"To help Terry finish his film was an honor paid to a man I adore," Law says. "Though we were all there in remembrance, Heath's heart pushed us with great lightness to the finish."

Lily Cole, who plays the female lead as Tony's love interest Valentina, says it was a struggle to resume filming just a month after Ledger's death.

"We'd had a month to absorb that situation, which by no means is enough time to get over it, but it was a month to think about finishing the film," Cole tells Film Review Online.

The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, which Gilliam has dedicated to Ledger, opens in limited release in the U.S. on Christmas Day and in wide release on January 8th.

Jude Law to Judge Heath Ledger Scholarship

When Heath Ledger died of an accidental overdose before completing his final film, Jude Law stepped in to finish his role. Now he's stepped up to judge Ledger's namesake scholarship competition.

"I am delighted and honored to do what I can to keep Heath's legacy alive," Law, 36, says. "He was a brilliant actor and a wonderful man and it is only fitting that this scholarship has been developed in his name."

Law took over Ledger's role in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus along with Johnny Depp and Colin Farrell after the actor's death of an accidental overdose last year.

The Australians in Film Heath Ledger Scholarship is awarded to an emerging Australian actor who wants to pursue a career in America. Hollywood hopeful Oliver Ackland took home last year's prize of $10,000 and return airfare from Australia on Qantas. This year's finalists will be announced in February 2010.

Movei Trailer:Sherlock Holmes Fights to Save England

Rollicking fight scenes. Sexual innuendo. Witty repartee. Mystery. The new trailer for Sherlock Holmes has it all.

In the upcoming flick, directed Guy Ritchie, Robert Downey Jr. plays Holmes as a brilliant, feisty – and ripped – detective on a mission to save England from his nemesis played by Mark Strong.

"Tomorrow, the world as you know it … will end," says a foreboding voice over from Strong.

"Well, there isn't any time to waste then," quips Holmes before leaping out a window.

Together, Holmes and his loyal colleague Watson (Jude Law) embark on a wild ride to thwart the evil plan.

The movie, also starring Rachel McAdams, hits theaters Christmas Day.

Hollywood Stars Smash Broadway Records

If you want to break the box office, you get an A-list star – and Broadway's learning that that's as true in theater as it is on the silver screen.

With movie stars on the marquees of its plays, Broadway is seeing one of its best fall seasons in recent years, selling $21.1 million from October 12 to 18, according to The New York Times.

A Steady Rain has grossed over $1 million, thanks to stars Daniel Craig and Hugh Jackman. Meanwhile, Shakespeare is hot as never before, with Jude Law raking in $904,914 last week, bringing total box office receipts for Broadway to $21.1 million for the week of October 12 to 18.

Last year, the hot ticket was Daniel Radcliffe's (mostly naked) turn in Equus, which grossed a mere $782,307 in the same weeklong period. Broadway's grosses were $19.7 million, less it from plays, and not including the grosses for the musical Young Frankenstein.

"These three current plays are doing absolutely sensational business, especially considering that the economy hasn't fully recovered,” Philip J. Smith, chairman of Broadway's Shubert Organization, told the Times. "They've been a huge factor in this unusually healthy fall for recession-era Broadway. If only all shows were doing so well."

But sometimes a play's success is buoyed more by great reviews and buzz – even if the names on the playbill aren't quite as attention-grabbing. God of Carnage has also broken the $1 million, and features respected actors Jeff Daniels, Hope Davis, James Gandolfini and Marcia Gay Harden.

Jude Law's Hamlet Gets Mixed Reviews

To be, or not to be ... a hit on Broadway?

That is the question Wednesday morning as the reviews come in for Jude Law's turn as Hamlet in the much-anticipated Broadway turn for the production, which originated in London to acclaim and opened at New York's Broadhurst Theatre Tuesday night. Reaction is decidedly mixed.

"If Hamlet talks about his mind, you can bet that Mr. Law will point to his forehead; when he mentions the heavens, his arm shoots straight up; and when the guy says his gorge rises, rest assured that he clutches at his stomach. If every actor were like Mr. Law, signed performances for the hard of hearing would be unnecessary," snipes Ben Brantley of The New York Times.

"If anything, Law starts out too overwrought, moaning and gnawing through the great soliloquies as if they were causing him intestinal distress," Time Out New York's David Cote notes.

Others put in much kinder terms.

"His Hamlet is no brooding philosopher/prince; he's an angry young man, a bundle of nerves forever threatening to explode," raves USA Today's Elysa Gardner , who considers Law's soliloquies "both muscular and exquisitely lyrical."

Poetry, No; Pretty, Yes

The traditionally acerbic John Simon of Bloomberg News, however, found nothing poetic about Law's "flashy, frequently jocular and unsubtle" performance in a play "aimed at neophyte audiences lured to the play not only by the star but with the added promise of a thriller liberally sprinkled with yocks."

Time Out New York, which generally lauded Law, was one of many that had a bone to pick with the supporting cast, finding Gugu Mbatha-Raw's Ophelia ho-hum, and Geraldine James and Ian Drysdale's Gertrude and Claudius an example of actors taking the phrase "the banality of evil" too literally.

Then thank God Jude's pretty, all critics agreed.

Noted The New York Times: "Mr. Law's undeniable charisma and gender-crossing sex appeal may captivate Broadway theatergoers who wouldn't normally attend productions of Shakespeare."

Who's That Girl? It's Jude Law – in Drag!

With his matinee idol looks, Jude Law is one of Hollywood's reigning heartthrobs. But in the movie Rage, the handsome actor shows off his feminine side as a sultry transsexual supermodel named Minx.

Virtually unrecognizable in a black wig, a black strapless dress, scarlet lipstick and smokey shadow highlighting his blue eyes, Law, 36, delivers what may be one of his most dramatic screen transformations to date.

"You want to know the secret of my success?," he purrs into the camera in a thick Russian accent. "I love myself."

Going glam wasn't easy, Law admitted at the film’s premiere at The Box, a cabaret theater in Manhattan. "On the first day, it took a few hours because I had to remove all my hair," he says. "I'm a bit of a coward. I didn’t go for the waxing. I just shaved it."

Wasn't that awfully itchy? "When it grew back," he admitted to PEOPLE.

The film, by British director Sally Potter, also stars Dame Judi Dench, Steve Buscemi, John Leguizamo, Bob Balaban, Eddie Izzard and Dianne Wiest as fashion insiders being interviewed backstage at a New York fashion show.

Brad Pitt in Talks for Sherlock Holmes Sequel

Brad Pitt has had discussions with the producers of "Sherlock Holmes" to star in a sequel as the detective's nemesis Moriarty, according to people familiar with the project.

No deal is in place for Pitt, currently in theaters with "Inglourious Basterds," and there's still three months to go until the first picture is released on Christmas Day.

Robert Downey, Jr. plays Holmes in the Warner Bros. project, which Guy Ritchie directed. Jude Law plays Watson, and Rachel McAdams stars as love interest Irene Adler. Much of the talent is expected to return in the new picture, as could Ritchie as director.

Pitt has been the subject of a litany of blog rumors as appearing in several shots of "Holmes" as Moriarty, but those familiar with the script say the character is in shadow and cannot be recognized.

It's increasingly common for a studio to begin developing sequels ahead of a movie's release, enabling a second picture to get into production faster than it normally would, and at a comparatively low cost. Warners began pushing "The Hangover," as the movie's prerelease buzz began to grow, though did not close deals until after the movie had begun raking in box office dollars.

Warners is keen on developing new franchises, with Holmes -- with its broad fan base and rich source material -- considered a very appealing candidate. The project would also mean Downey would star in a second franchise, after "Iron Man," while DreamWorks could build yet another franchise around him with "Cowboys and Aliens."

Trailer - The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus

Before his untimely death in January 2008, Heath Ledger was filming what would become his last role, Tony in the Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus is a fantastical morality tale, set in the present-day. It tells the story of Dr. Parnassus, played by Christopher Plummer, and his extraordinary ‘Imaginarium', a travelling show where members of the audience get an irresistible opportunity to choose between light and joy or darkness and gloom.

Blessed with the extraordinary gift of guiding the imaginations of others, Doctor Parnassus is cursed with a dark secret. An inveterate gambler, thousands of years ago he made a bet with the devil, Mr. Nick, in which he won immortality. Centuries later, on meeting his one true love, Dr. Parnassus made another deal with the devil, trading his immortality for youth, on condition that when his daughter reached her 16th birthday, she would become the property of Mr Nick.

When Heath passed away, the film was still in production, with several scenes to be completed. Director Terry Gilliam decided to transform Tony in the movie by using Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell as the character 'Imaginarium Tony' after Heath Ledger's untimely death.

Guy Ritchie Warned on Gay Sherlock Holmes Movie

A former New York Post film critic warns director Guy Ritchie against the prospect of a gay Sherlock Holmes character, telling the Page Six gossip column that audiences feel no “hunger” to see stars Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law “impersonating homosexuals” in the upcoming film based on the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle character.

In February, Downey, who plays Holmes, told the British tabloid News of the World that his character would experience heightened intimacy with his sidekick Watson, played by Law. "We're two men who happen to be roommates, wrestle a lot, and share a bed. It's bad-ass," said Downey.

Law added at the time: "Guy wanted to make this about the relationship between Watson and Holmes. They're both mean and complicated."

However, critic Michael Medved deflates the idea in an interview with Tuesday's Page Six column.

"There's not a seething, bubbling hunger to see straight stars impersonating homosexuals," Medved said. "I think they're just trying to generate controversy … They know that making Holmes and Watson homosexual will take away two thirds of their box office. Who is going to want to see Downey Jr. and Law make out? I don't think it would be appealing to women. Straight men don't want to see it." As for who constitutes the other one third of movie audiences, Medved does not specify.

Medved, a self-identified conservative who is one of only a few critics known for rating the family-viewing suitability of films, has been criticized by critics like Roger Ebert for injecting his politics into his reviews.

Sherlock Holmes is scheduled for release on December 25th.

Jude Law to Be a Father for Fourth Time

Jude Law, who has three children with ex-wife Sadie Frost, has discovered he's expecting a fourth child with an unidentified former lover.

"Jude Law can confirm that, following a relationship last year, he has been advised that he is to be the father of a child due in the fall of this year," the actor's rep says in a statement. "Mr. Law is no longer in a relationship with the individual concerned but he intends to be a fully supportive part of the child's life. This is an entirely private matter and no other statements will be made."

Law, 36, next will appear in Hamlet on Broadway in October, and will star with Robert Downey Jr. in the film Sherlock Holmes opening on Christmas Day.

Robert Downey Jr.'s Man Crush

Will Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson be the latest bromance to hit Hollywood?

Robert Downey Jr., who plays Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's classic fictional character opposite Jude Law's Watson in Guy Ritchie's remake of Sherlock Holmes thinks he and Law have some sexy chemistry together.

"It's called circumstantial homosexuality," he jokingly told the press at Comic-Con Friday, after leading lady Rachel McAdams suggested the film's central love story is really between the sleuth and his sidekick.

The two actors took to each other even before Law signed on to the part. Downey was sent to meet his future costar and "sell" him on the role and "Jude walks down the hall and my assistant – who never cares about anything – is standing in the hall and she's like, 'Oh my God, there he is!' He was dressed in that kind of fabulous, super expensive, under-dressed way.

"I said, 'Dude' – and literally before he said he was going to do the movie, before he said that he was available, before he said that he either did or didn't want to be courted, we just started talking like two serious actors about what would need to happen to make this work as a piece of straight drama. We just became really close really quickly, because we just rolled up our sleeves and started working from jump."

Downey said Law, who is currently performing Hamlet on stage in London, "is so the right arm of this movie."

But good thing for the ladies, the film isn't just about male bonding. Downey shares some romantic moments with McAdams – but "not enough for my taste," he said.

The actor calls his recent creative renaissance after too many years of being sidetracked by addiction issues, "pretty miraculous, but in a realm of miracles I think it's probably a two or three I guess.

Nonetheless it's mind-blowing to me."

Jude Law in Hamlet Coming to Broadway

Jude Law is about to vacillate – in front of everybody.

The actor, who's currently starring in a Donmar Warehouse production of Shakespeare's Hamlet, will bring the show to Broadway in September, The New York Times reports. His Hamlet will play a 12-week run at the Broadhurst Theater, with previews beginning September 12th, says the paper.

Reviews of Law's performance have been particularly positive. "[He] joins the modern pantheon of spellbinding sweet princes with a performance of rare vulnerability and emotional openness," Charles Spencer wrote in the Telegraph. Times of London critic Benedict Nightingale called the actor "robust and tough."

Law, 36, previously appeared on Broadway – nude – in the 1995 play Indiscretions alongside Kathleen Turner and Cynthia Nixon. Tickets for Hamlet go on sale July 18th.

Sherlock Holmes Trailer Features Robert Downey, Jr. in the Buff

Guy Ritchie’s upcoming Sherlock Holmes is sure to be a hit with the gays.

The director has vowed to emphasize Holmes’s physicality and the fascinating relationship between the detective, portrayed by Robert Downey, Jr., and his trusty sidekick Watson, portrayed by Jude Law. With Rachel McAdams thrown in for good measure, the flick is sure to be a box-office hit.

The newly released trailer previews some of the action to be expected, as well as some of Downey, Jr.’s skin, of which we have been told to expect much. Also of note – the last scene of the trailer, which depicts a tied-up Holmes propositioning the maid.

Is that a Pipe in your Mouth Sherlock?

The new Guy Richie movie Sherlock Holmes has an entirely new approach to this familiar character.

In a break from the traditional adaptations seen on the small and large screen, Holmes, played by Robert Downey Jr, and Dr Watson, played by Jude Law, are seen sharing a bed. These two chums also enjoy man-to-man wrestling.

Robert Downey Jr was quoted in the News of the World as saying “We’re two men who happen to be room-mates, wrestle a lot and share a bed. It’s badass.” Jude Law added “Guy wanted to make this about the relationship between Watson and Holmes. They’re both mean and complicated.”

The film has already had it set backs as Guy was ordered to re-shoot five weeks of filming after he was told what had been done was not good enough by the studios. Apparently he had something else on his mind at the time. However the film is still planned to be released on schedule in November this year.
