Neil Patrick Harris Tops the AfterElton Hot 100 List

AfterElton’s annual Hot 100 list is out and Neil Patrick Harris is once again at the head of the class.

Readers cast their votes in recent weeks and the results are a list comprised of male actors, musicians, athletes, and other prominent celebrities.

The AfterElton Hot 100 began in 2007 in response to Maxim’s Hot 100 and allows gay and bisexual men to pick the celebrities they believe to be the most attractive, regardless of sexual orientation.

This year’s Hot 100 features 26 openly gay or bisexual men including second-place Scott Evans as well as John Barrowman, Adam Lambert, Michael Urie, Cheyenne Jackson, Ricky Martin, Luke Macfarlane, Chris Colfer, Jonothan Groff, Chad Allen, Wilson Cruz, Gavin Greel, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, David Burtka, Nick Adams, Dustin Lance Black, Randy Harrison, Tom Ford, Gareth Thomas, Matthew Mitcham, Darryl Stephens, and Robert Gant.

Here is his reaction to his latest honor: “Holy Pete, a repeat!?!Thanks for the votes, gentlemen. I don’t quite know how to respond - it’s always fun to be on the top of a pile of hot dudes? No, umm - it IS a lot more enjoyable the second time you do it? No, no. How about – I’ve always fantasized having these 99 guys behind me? Truly, though, the fact that David and I both made this list means a lot. Mainly, it means that there will be some enthusiastic role playing tonight. So thanks for that.”

Anderson Cooper, the hard-working CNN anchor and 60 Minutes correspondent, doesn’t discuss his sexuality publicly but he did have this reaction to making the list: “I was very humbled and flattered to be number 11 on your list, until I was reminded I was number 9 on it two years ago. Is it my wattle, or the bags under my eyes? Despite my rapid decline, thank you very much. My trainer is also very thankful, because you have just guaranteed his employment for the coming year.”

Other highlights:

– The three actors at the center of the As the World Turns gay love triangle all finished high on the list: Van Hansis, Jake Silbermann and Eric Sheffer Stevens while Brett Claywell who played Kyle on One Life to Live made the cut.

– Movie star Chris Evans has to settle for finishing in 10th place, nine spots behind brother Scott!

– Four Glee stars are included: Colfer, Groff as well as Matthew Morrison and Cory Monteith.

– Queer as Folk stars are still special to readers with Gant, Randy Harrison and Gale Harold all ranking high.

– A-List movie stars are sprinkled throughout: Brad Pitt, Jake Gyllenhaal, George Clooney, Daniel Craig, Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Colin Farrell, Gerard Butler.

The Gayncients...All of the Gladiators!

Brad Pitt, Russell Crowe, Gerard Butler, Andy Whitfield, the list goes on: all muscular fellows who got down and dirty in leather thongs and strappy sandals. With the Clash of the Titans remake set to launch Sam Worthington onto the big screen in yet more oiled-up action, and Starz’s Spartacus: Blood and Sand ramping it up with some gay thrills (and quite a bit of full frontal male nudity), we ask just how gay were the real ancients? The answer is -- a whole lot more than the movies show.

Spartacus

In contrast to most of the stories that follow, the ’60s movie is pretty gay, the TV series is very gay, but the real-life story wasn’t really gay at all. Spartacus was one of a group of slaves who fought their way out of a gladiator school in Italy in 73 B.C. He proved smart and scored victories over every Roman army sent after him, and his own ragtag army grew to number tens of thousands. Finally, the might of Rome prevailed and Spartacus was defeated, his followers killed or crucified. His body was never found. There are no reports of gayness. On to Stanley Kubrick’s 1960 movie, Spartacus, with Kirk Douglas in the title role, but the much more interesting subplot featuring the very camp Crassus (Laurence Olivier) lusting after a very young, pretty slave boy Antoninus (Tony Curtis) and making his play in the baths. That scene was not restored until the movie’s re-release in 1991. Now we have the TV show, which is really 300 meets Gladiator meets The Matrix with some man-on-man action. No, really -- and this time not just innuendo. It isn’t a major plotline, but there is a serious relationship there, with a muscled hunk and a … whatever twinks were called in those days. Twancients?

The Sacred Band of Thebes

One hundred-fifty homo couples, idolized by society, heroes to all, sworn to fight to the death to protect their love and homeland. Perfect. And for 40 years (from 378 B.C.) they did just that for the Greek city-state of Thebes. They were instrumental in defeating the Spartans (mild irony here, given those scantily clad brutes’ fondness for pederasty), and then (major irony this time) were wiped out by none other than Alexander (soon to be “the Great” and very likely “the Gay”) and his dad, Philip of Macedon, in 338 B.C. The Band were the only ones not to run away and refused surrender. Philip, seeing the bodies, is said by Plutarch to have stated: “Perish any man who suspects that these men either did or suffered anything unseemly.”

By chance, that very battle is re-created in the 1956 Richard Burton film Alexander the Great, though sadly it makes no mention of the Band at all and is in fact completely lame-looking other than Burton, who’s always worth a look.

Alexander the Great

Was he or wasn’t he? Gay, that is -- clearly he was great, having conquered one of the largest empires in history by the time of his death at 32 (in 232 B.C.). But despite his two marriages and his harem (a Persian affectation he favored though apparently used “sparingly”) and the arguments between biographers and historians, most agree his greatest relationship was with Hephaestion, his bodyguard, general, and companion. Hephaestion’s death plunged Alexander into a deep depression, and he died just eight months later. So was he gay? Maybe not, but the boy was very, very bi. Colin Farrell, in the movie Alexander, went for a pretty queer blond hairdo, but that’s as gay as the film got -- which is probably why the movie bombed.

The Spartans

Bullies, brutes, preening peacocks, and big fans of oiling up and doing each other’s hair before a battle. The Spartans were all that and more and for a long time, given how much they really annoyed pretty much everyone they met (Sparta was a major power from 650 B.C. until around 360 B.C.). A brief summation of Spartan society: two kings, a small council of old men (the Gerousia), a small number of citizens, and a huge number of slaves (helots) to bully, humiliate, abuse, and kill. The male citizens were full-time soldiers and enjoyed pederasty, where an older man took a younger man under his wing. Some historians say this was chaste, some say chaste and yet erotic, some say get a grip, of course it was sexual. Also, when a young soldier came of age, his pre-chosen wife had her head shaved and was wrapped in a woolen military cloak and made to lie in a darkened room for him. Pretty conclusive, no? The movie 300 managed to simultaneously be really gay and pretty homophobic, what with the Athenians dismissed as “boy lovers” and that huge Persian drag god-king. Still, if it’s oiled six-packs and leather thongs you’re after, look no further. And don’t think of Gerard Butler as he is now, captured recently post-swim by a paparrazi, in all his bloated glory. Think of him always with a stomach like a carton of eggs, shouting “THUS. US. SPARTA!” in a Glaswegian accent.

Clash of the Titans

This is Greek god territory, and not many people would still claim they were real, so it’s fair game for reinvention in the movies. And as a genre, Greco-Roman mythology has no shortage of same-sex relationships -- Hercules perhaps the best-known and reputed to be the lover of many, many women and not a few boys.

As for the movies, the original Clash of the Titans sucked and not in a good way. The remake though, well: Sam Worthington in a tiny leather kilt and shaved head, plus a band of brawny companions in red cloaks and not much else. Liam Neeson too, though he’s gotten old and keeps his clothes on, thankfully. Can there be such a thing as too many dirty sweaty Greeks with great bods? Don’t be silly.

The Trojans

You know you’re manly when a brand of condoms is named after you, right?

So if we pretend we believe the siege of Troy really happened the way the legends tell us (Helen, face that launched a thousand ships; wooden horse; Achilles and his heel; etc.) then we’re mining a historically queer vein here. Achilles himself and Patroclus were very close, though no one specifically says they were bedding down together, but in context, pederasty seems highly likely. Achilles’ homo tendencies are again to the fore when the Trojan prince Troilus and his sister Polyxena are captured and Achilles takes a fancy to the lad. In different versions of the tale, Troilus rejects Achilles and is decapitated (you’d think twice before rejecting Achilles, clearly) or they get it on and Troilus is killed in an overenthusiastic clinch with Achilles. If only to show how un-gay the 2004 movie Troy, is in comparison to the legend: We have Brad in sandals and a tiny skirt with lots of muscles but the movie stresses that the pair are cousins (in fact, they’re first cousins once removed), and this is stressed with much manly sporting around, so we know there couldn’t be anything dodgy going on.

The Roman Emperors

Forget Caligula and Nero and their excesses: Those dudes would have humped a doorknob. The real, honest-to-goodness gay emperor also one of the best emperors: Hadrian (emperor from 117 A.D. until 138 A.D.), who was one of the so-called “five good emperors.” He strengthened the empire, wrote poetry in Latin and Greek, and made the beard fashionable (his may well have been grown to hide a warty face, but never mind). He also built libraries, bathhouses (of course) and theaters. Is any more proof needed? Well, here it is, in the handsome shape of Antinous, a Greek boy who Hadrian met when the youth was 13 or 14. When the boy mysteriously drowned six years later, the grief-stricken emperor founded a city in his honor and then had him deified.

But back to Caligula for a second, and high praise for a classic moment in TV history, courtesy of the Brits’ cheap and cheerful 1970s TV series I Claudius. There’s no suggestion Claudius was a homo, but check out this wonderful scene where the young Caligula (John Hurt at his creepiest) presents his Uncle Tiberius with ancient gay porn … and a special appearance by Patrick Stewart (with hair) as Praetorian Guard commander Sejanus.

Gladiator

We love an excuse to show Russell Crowe at his sweaty best, and here it is. He fights Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) in the arena at the end of the movie, you may recall. Commodus’ character is based on the real-life emperor of the same name (who ruled 180 A.D. to 192 A.D.). The real Commodus was a thug who loved a fight and used to battle men and animals in the arena, often naked in his preferred guise of the famously bi-curious Hercules.

Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler Take a Cozy Parisian Cruise

Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler are embracing the joie de vivre that Paris has to offer.

In town to promote The Bounty Hunter, the costars enjoyed a private river cruise on the Seine Saturday evening. Though the single stars have denied romance rumors, a source said they looked as friendly and flirty as ever on their boat ride. "They were very close," the source says. "They really warmed up the room."

While a soft rain fell on the city, the stars and about 20 guests settled into wood-paneled grand salon on the top deck of the luxury charter yacht, ACTE III. Seated around a single long table, they dined on green salad and grilled chicken (for her) and lobster (for him). For dessert, they sipped champagne and enjoyed fresh berries.

Aniston arrived in Paris on Friday from Los Angeles, and dined that night at Ristorante La Stresa, a small exclusive eatery, where she bumped into Chinese actress Michelle Yeoh and French producer and director Luc Besson.

Butler arrived Saturday before the cruise, which took the stars past some of the City of Light's most famous landmarks, including the Place de la Concorde, the Seine bridges and the Statue of Liberty on the Ile des Cygnes, where the boat turned and headed toward the Eiffel Tower in time for its hourly lights display.

Aniston and Butler stayed close throughout the night, the source said, "hugging and touching each other" on the cruise, which docked later at the Quai d'Orsay.

With Sunday night scheduled for a Champs-Elysées red carpet premiere of their romantic comedy, the costars will then spend several days traveling across Europe.

Gerard Butler shares on Wednesday’s episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show that he sometimes goes commando!

Ellen first asks, “I am on a quest for World Domination and you wearing a kilt and if it had something to do with me that would me wonderful. Now, sometimes you don’t wear underwear under things like that, right?”

The 40-year-old Scottish hunk responds yes and then Ellen gifts him with a kilt and “Watch Ellen” boxers. Haha!

Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler have laughed off reports that they're romantically involved, but the Bounty Hunter costars sure look cozy on the cover of W magazine's April issue.

Shot on a ranch about 45 minutes outside of Los Angeles in mid-January, the 13-page pictorial featuring Butler and Aniston, both 40, consists of seven photographs by celeb shutterbug Steven Klein. Ironically, Klein also shot W's infamous July 2005 cover featuring Brad Pitt – who had then-recently separated from Aniston – playing house with Angelina Jolie.

For the April cover, on which hunky Scottish actor Butler wraps his arms around Aniston, the actress tapped into her inner fashionista and wore an Alberta Ferretti silk chiffon dress, Carine Gilson Lingerie Couture's silk bra and silk lace briefs, Stella McCartney garters and Lanvin shoes. Total retail value for her outfit? $3,800!

As for the inside pictorial, it's called "Speed Trap: Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler do a little role playing in the searing heat of the California desert where damsels aren't always in distress and lawmen sometimes break the rules." Hmmm ... role playing?

Madonna and Gerard Butler Have a Dance-Off!

Madonna co-hosted a post-Oscars bash on Sunday night, and she was in the mood for a party! The pop star couldn't resist when Gerard Butler challenged her dancing skills by suggesting a dance-off.

A source said: "Madonna and Gerard were grinding on the dance floor before getting into a dance-off. It was hilarious."

In addition to Gerard, Madonna also showcased her dance moves with Gabourey Sidibe, who earlier lost out to Sandra Bullock in the Best Actress category. A source said: "Madonna danced non-stop for four hours. She and Gabourey were dancing together at one point. They had a great time. This was the Oscar party to be at this year."

Demi Moore co-hosted the party with Madonna, which was attended by a host of stars, including Demi's husband Ashton Kutcher, P. Diddy, Renee Zellweger, Bradley Cooper and Taylor Lautner.

As well as some entertaining dance moves, the 300 guests were treated to a late-night Indian takeaway as well as enjoying a cocktail created by Demi and Madonna especially for the party.

Inside Madonna & Demi Moore's Oscar Party

After Sunday's Academy Awards, everyone flocked to Madonna's manager Guy Oseary's L.A. home for a bash hosted by the pop dvia and Demi Moore. There was dancing, a late-night Indian food and tons of A-Listers. Here's what happened inside the party:

• "Madonna danced non-stop for four hours,” says a source. "She and Gabourey [Sidibe] were dancing together at one point. They had a great time." Other stars on the dance floor: Moore, hubby Ashton Kutcher and Diddy, who commandeered the mic throughout the night. At one point, the music mogul stopped the music and said that unless Anderson Cooper started dancing, he wouldn't play any more music. Luckily, the CNN anchor quickly hit the dance floor!

• Renée Zellweger and Bradley Cooper were "adorable and super close all night," a source tells us, adding that the actress and her beau stayed at the bash past 4 a.m. The Hangover star, meanwhile, also hung out in the library, where Jack Nicholson was holding court with fellow revelers like Woody Harrelson and Kate Walsh.

• Penélope Cruz had quite a look at the party: The actress sported a faux-moustache, while Javier Bardem was wearing a feathered boa at the beginning of the party.

• There were 300 guests at the party, including Taylor Lautner, Lady Gaga, Jeremy Renner, Leonardo DiCaprio, Gerard Butler and more. Around 3 a.m., the source says, they served Indian food, which everyone was "inhaling." There was also a special drink, created for the party by Moore: the Vita Coco Caipirinha. (Moore and Madonna are investors in the company.) "Everyone was drinking it and they gave out versions of it to people on the way out," says the source. "This was the Oscar party to be at this year," says the source. "This turned out to be the party that everyone wanted to be at."

Jen Aniston Explains Her Affection for Gerard Butler

Why is Jennifer Aniston so fond of her Bounty Hunter costar and frequent party buddy Gerard Butler? It's not rocket science. The guy's fun to be around and doesn't take himself too seriously.

"We just had so much fun [making the movie] together, you know. He's just fun. Gerry's the most unpretentious guy," Aniston tells Access Hollywood in a multi-part interview set to begin airing Tuesday night.

"He's a guy's guy," she adds, "but he's absolutely the most lovely and sort of self-deprecating [person] and just what you see is what you get. We look at work the same way … We always had each other's back."

Butler, 40, was among the large coterie of friends who joined Aniston for her 41st birthday celebration in Los Cabos, Mexico, this past week. The pair were also nearly inseparable during the Golden Globes weekend in January.

By all accounts, the long birthday weekend was a blast, and Aniston says there was just one rule – no one could say the number 41 out loud. "Thirty was a hump, but you know 31 is fabulous," she jokes. "It really does get better, doesn't it?"

Why did she choose Mexico where she has gone many times before? "These people survive on us coming down and spending money," Aniston explains. Considering the country's troubles with swine flu and drug trafficking, "It sort of made sense to sort of say, 'Hey, let's help out Mexico.' "

Gerard Butler Offers a Date Night to Benefit Charity

Gerard Butler is auctioning an evening of his company to raise money for a children’s cancer charity.

An extremely lucky fan is going to win a date with the 300 star, who offered a date night to benefit the non-profit organization Kids Kicking Cancer, which teaches martial arts to empower young cancer patients.

Fans who make a $20 donation will be entered into a drawing for the date with Butler. The actor has also donated invitations to an upcoming film premiere and a visit to one of his films’ sets.

Gerard Butler, Sophia Loren & Mel Gibson to Present at Golden Globes

With less than two weeks until showtime, producers of the 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards have announced three more presenters: Gerard Butler, Mel Gibson and Sophia Loren.

They join previously announced presenters Jennifer Aniston, Halle Berry, Colin Farrell, Matthew Fox, Nicole Kidman, Julia Roberts, Mickey Rourke and Sam Worthington.

The awards are being hosted by Ricky Gervais, and will feature Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio presenting the Cecil B. DeMille Award to Martin Scorsese for his "outstanding contribution to the entertainment field."

"I'm most looking forward to sharing the stage with Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese," Gervais said. "Who'd have thought it. The biggest heartthrob, greatest actor and best director in the world ... and those three, all in one place."

Gerard Butler Usually Picks the Wrong Ladies

Although Gerard Butler has been romantically linked to beauties like Jennifer Aniston and Jessica Simpson, he swears he doesn't have a type. In fact, the ladies he chooses are usually too crazy for him to handle.

He explained: “I don’t know because often I feel that I meet a girl that is unexpected. There is no rhyme or reason. I always thought I don’t want a girl who is too crazy, too much for me, and then I meet a girl who is crazy and I go, ‘Wow, she is amazing.’ But I can’t ever give a definite kind of woman because there are different things in different women I might like. I might like a girl who is gentle and innocent, but then again I might like a woman who is more statuesque and strong and powerful, it’s the polar opposites. It just depends on the moment, on the person, on magic.”

As he approaches his 40th birthday this Friday, The Bounty Hunter hunk has been forced to consider his future as he eventually wants to settle down and start a family.

He explained to Scotland’s Daily Record newspaper: "Right now I question a bunch of things in my life and I am in a lot of ways more comfortable than ever. I know what still excites me, what can excite me and what is just never going to happen."

"But then also there are things I have different opinions on. Sometimes I think, ‘God, I wish I was married now, had kids.' Other times I think, ‘Thank Christ I am not married and don’t have kids yet. I can do that later.’"

"But I can totally imagine it. It’s just not right now. I am great where I am at but it would be nice. It doesn’t have to be marriage. It could be to be in a relationship and I would definitely like kids some day."

Gerard Butler Loves to Bare His Skinny, Tight Bum

Actor Gerard Butler loves showing off his bum on the big screen - because he's proud of his finest asset.

But the Scot fears moviegoers think an a**-baring scene is written into his contract - just so he can get naked.

He said in a recent interview, "I love to show my rear end in roles. I fear it's becoming a bit of a habit, a tradition that I have to show my a** in every movie that I can."

Butler bares all in new film "Law Abiding Citizen" and admits that scene was very much in keeping with his character in the film.

He adds, "This was always a great scene in the movie and actually speaks volumes about this character and part of the wackiness and unexpectedness that happens... He's completely unpredictable and so when he strips off it makes sense.

"I mean there's a genius behind that and if it means I have to bare my ass again than so be it.

"I've always had a skinny, tight a** but I had to bulk up for this film; I was inspired by watching (Robert) DeNiro in Taxi Driver during the scene where he's doing the push-ups and he's so cut. A lot more is said in that than somebody just being big and kind of a meathead."

But Butler admits he doesn't always enjoy the work that comes as he prepares to bulk up for a movie role: "Whenever I make those decisions to be naked, I go, 'Oh s**t here's another three months of being on a diet and getting that body back!'
