Olivia Newton-John's Ex-Boyfriend: I'm Alive, Now Stop Looking for Me

The former boyfriend of Olivia Newton-John, who vanished five years ago, has given private investigators conclusive proof he is alive in the hopes everyone will now leave him alone. Patrick McDermott, missing since a 2005 fishing trip in California, reportedly sent voice messages and other documents to Philip Klein, who was hired by NBC's 'Dateline' to track him down.

Klein told the Daily Telegraph on Thursday that after reviewing the items, he and his team had "concluded beyond a reasonable doubt that Mr. McDermott is alive."

McDermott, 48, and his lawyer sent the proof in return for detectives agreeing to halt their search, Klein said. He hopes "not to be 'hounded' any longer by investigators or the media."

Klein is not saying exactly where the man is; however, there have been numerous sightings of him in Mexico, where he was said to be working as a yacht deckhand in the drifter-friendly town of Sayulita.

Last year, a letter faxed on behalf of McDermott begged investigators to "stop this search immediately" and allow the former cameraman to "live his life in peace and harmony. He is safe and has started anew again in a new place both physically and mentally."

McDermott vanished near San Pedro, Calif., in 2005 and was believed to have drowned after falling overboard a boat ironically called "Freedom."

His disappearance left his 'Grease'-starring girlfriend heartbroken and fueled speculation he faked his own death to avoid mounting debts and allow his teenage son with his ex-wife, actress Yvette Nipa, to benefit from a life insurance policy.

Newton-John had been dating McDermott for nine years and has since married businessman John Easterling.

Olivia Newton-John's ex-Lover Found Alive

Officials investigating the disappearance of Olivia Newton-john's former lover have renewed hope he is still alive after he reportedly sent authorities a letter begging to be left alone.

Patrick McDermott, presumed dead after disappearing on a 2005 fishing trip, is said to have faxed a message to U.S. private detectives asking to live his life in peace in Mexico.

The fax reads, "Pat has asked that I portray to you his innocence. Pat has committed no crime. Pat simply wishes to be left alone. Let him live his life in peace and harmony. He is safe and has started anew again in a new place both physically and mentally. Stop this search immediately."

Lead investigator Philip Klein alleges he and his team have also received three phone calls from McDermott's representatives in the past six months, which followed 16 sightings of the cameraman in Mexico in recent years.

Klein believes McDermott is now working as a deckhand in fishing town Sayulita amid speculation he had staged his own death to be free of child support debts to ex-wife Yvette Nipar.

The Grease star was left heartbroken after McDermott vanished off the California coast, but has since found love with tycoon John Easterling, who she married in Peru last summer.

Olivia Newton John's Missing ex-Boyfriend 'Found' via Internet

Olivia Newton-John's former partner Patrick McDermott, who disappeared four years ago, is alive and living on a boat on the South American coast, private investigators have claimed.

A team of US investigators have said they used the website
findpatrickmcdermott.com to track him down.

They allege Mr McDermott has been regularly logging on to the site, developed by the team as a high-tech trap. They now claim he is on a boat travelling along the Mexico coastline to South America.

"When you're running you always are looking over your shoulder and we're going to catch him looking at us. The most interesting hits have come directly from Cabo San Lucas (in Mexico), the last place anybody saw Patrick McDermott," investigator Philip Klein said.

Mr McDermott, who had been in a relationship with Newton-John for nine years, disappeared from chartered fishing boat The Freedom of California in 2005. He was 48.

Mr Klein, who was hired by US current affairs programme Dateline, said he believed that the former cameraman had disappeared so he could avoid paying debts and enable his teenage son to receive a $150,000 life insurance payout.

"He's alive - there's no doubt in my mind, this guy's alive," Mr Klein he told Dateline.

Mr Klein said Newton-John, who refused to be interviewed for the investigation, had regularly been logging on to the site to get updates on the hunt for her ex-partner.

The Australian actress, who remarried last year, has moved to the upmarket Florida community of Jupiter Island where Easterling owns a three-bedroom house.

Mr Klein, who claimed to have confirmed sightings of Mr McDermott from at least 17 witnesses, said he was confident of tracking him down.
