Lisa Rinna's Lip Surgery Didn't Make Harry Hamlin Smile at First

Lisa Rinna's mouth has attracted plenty of attention over the years – not all of it flattering. But one person who had no issue with her famously puffy pout? Her husband, Harry Hamlin.

"What got me about Lisa was her eyes, not her lips," says Hamlin, who married Rinna in 1997. "So I spent most of my time looking at those."

Hamlin says he didn't notice as, over the years, Rinna's top lip became swollen and bumpy – the result of scar tissue that formed around silicone injected into the lip when she was 25.

"Whatever change took place was so gradual, it never registered for me," says Hamlin, adding that when kissing his wife, her mouth always "felt soft and supple."

As a result, Hamlin, 58, was initially resistant when Rinna, 47, told him she was considering lip-reduction surgery.

'Fresh and Young'

Going under the knife is "never a good thing, in my opinion," says Hamlin. "I understand it from a woman's point of view. But plastic surgery is just an extension of that whole 'let's stay fresh and young' vibe. Me, I'm just gonna get old and haggard. But I love Lisa no matter what – whether she has plastic surgery or not, or she's gray or saggy. It's the long haul here."

Adds Rinna: "I knew Harry would say, 'Don't touch it, don't mess with it.' He was like, 'Maybe you should just leave it alone.' He loves me the way I am."

But once Hamlin saw how much it meant to his wife, whose mouth had become a regular subject of whispers and taunts, he jumped on board.

Yet to Test

During the August 26th procedure, Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Garth Fisher removed some of the tissue containing silicone that had seeped throughout Rinna's lip, and re-contoured the rest, decreasing the lip's volume by at least 30 percent.

While it will take up to six months for the swelling to go away, Rinna is thrilled. "I feel fantastic," she says. "It looks good – it's a huge difference."

But the couple, whose TV Land reality show Harry Loves Lisa premiered this month, still haven't had a chance to road test the results.

"My lip is healing, so we've had to be pretty ginger about it," says Rinna. "No crazy makeout sessions – yet!"

Lisa Rinna Goes Under Knife to Reduce Upper Lip

She swore she'd never touch her infamous pucker again, but on Aug. 26, Lisa Rinna did just that – surgically reducing the size of her upper lip.

"My lips started to define who I am," Rinna, 47, said about why she decided to undergo the procedure. "That bothered me."

Public reaction to her plastic surgery confession last year also upset her. After finally admitting that in 1986 she had silicone injected into her upper lip – an impulsive decision she made with a girlfriend and likens to getting a tattoo – Rinna says, "I took a big hit for being honest. It gave everyone online permission to lambaste me. It hurt my feelings."

Now, the star of TVLand's upcoming reality show Harry Loves Lisa (with husband Harry Hamlin) – as well as the author of the new novel Starlit – is ready to keep a stiff upper lip about her new upper lip. "It doesn't matter what other people think," she says. "I did it for myself."

As a result of the procedure, she says, rather than feeling "bumpy and uneven … my lip has no lumps! It's smooth."

But her mouth is still swollen from the procedure and will require six months to heal fully. "It's a work in progress," admits Rinna, "but I feel fantastic."

Lisa Rinna Tells the Truth about Her Lips

Say this for Lisa Rinna: She has loose lips as far as her thick lips are concerned.

"That's the pink elephant in the room," the actress, 45, said on Monday's Today show. "This is the first time I have told what I have done to my lips."

It all started 23 years ago, said Rinna as her husband, former L.A. Law star Harry Hamlin, watched from the wings. "I had silicone put in my top lip not the bottom lip."

The look she was after was what Barbara Hershey had in the Bette Midler movie Beaches, "plump and beautiful," said Rinna. "I was gullible enough to go and do it."

Not that she was dissatisfied with the outcome. She loved the look, which, she noted, "Made me who I am."

But then the silicone hardened, and the look of the scar tissue was no longer plump and beautiful. Next came a cortisone injection, and that was "gross," she said.

But that, in a nutshell, is the saga of Rinna's pucker apparatus. "I do not blow up and down my lips," she assured fans.

There to promote her book, Rinnavation, due to be published Tuesday, Rinna – who also appears in a Playboy spread this month that her husband described as "awesome" – discussed the book's self-help points. This includes how she got her sex drive back after having children, "or else risk losing Harry," as well as diet and fitness advice.

Lisa Rinna Wants Mrs. Robinson Role

Former Melrose Place star Lisa Rinna's recent Playboy magazine reveal has inspired her to play a sexy older woman in a new TV project.

The actress paid homage to movie legend Anne Bancroft's The Graduate seductress Mrs. Robinson in the pages of the current issue of Playboy - and now she wants a similar role in a TV series.

She says, "I have another great character in me. I think maybe a Mrs. Robinson type. I’m gonna put that out in the universe."

But Rinna insists she won't be playing such a role on the Melrose Place remake, despite lobbying for a return to the show where she made her big break.

She tells EW.com, "I don’t think I wanna go back anymore... It doesn’t feel right! It feels weird. I’ve changed my mind. You can’t go back."

No Amanda at the New Melrose Place

Actress Heather Locklear won't be part of the Melrose Place update, because she's not convinced writers can find a way of bringing her character Amanda Woodward back.

Locklear was considered a definite for the remake of the 1980s soap, but she has turned down an offer to join the cast.

A source tells EW.com, "There wasn't a way to bring her back that made sense."

The actress' reps have confirmed Locklear has declined the offer to return to the role.

The new show, which is slated to hit TV screens in America later this year, will feature new mum Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and David Cassidy's daughter Katie.

Meanwhile, another former Melrose Place star, Lisa Rinna, is going to extremes to land a role in the beloved TV series' remake, hitting the streets of Los Angeles to drum up support.

The actress-turned-reality TV star recently confessed she'd do anything to appear on the new show, and proved it on Wednesday by urging motorists to 'honk' for her.

Rinna, who played Taylor McBride on the original series, worked the corner of Melrose Avenue and Melrose Place with placards stating, "Honk for Lisa Rinna on the new Melrose Place".

The actress will be baring all for Playboy this summer in another attempt to boost her appeal and land a Melrose Place return.

Lisa Rinna Reveals Details of Her Playboy Shoot

Lisa Rinna's secret to looking fabulous in her upcoming May spread in Playboy? Skipping the gym.

"This was really hard for me because being 45 years old and posing for Playboy, you want to amp it up," Rinna told PEOPLE at Tuesday's Room 23 book launch hosted by Diana Jenkins and Neuro Brands.

Rinna explains she received direct orders from Playboy photographer Deborah Anderson, who also shot Rinna for the Room 23 book, which was created by Malibu businesswoman and activist Diana Jenkins to benefit the UCLA Sanela Diana Jenkins International Justice Clinic."
