Fergie Talks to The Advocate About Hubby Josh Duhamel’s Gay Fans and Her Own Bisexual Past

Fergie, the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter from the Black Eyed Peas, undertakes her most ambitious movie role to date in the big-screen version of the musical "Nine" directed by Rob Marshall and co-starring Oscar winners Daniel Day-Lewis, Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz, Marion Cotillard, Judi Dench, Sophia Loren, and Kate Hudson.

Nine will be released on Christmas Day.

Born Stacey Ferguson, Fergie is married to heartthrob actor Josh Duhamel and in a new interview with The Advocate’s Brandon Voss, she talks about his appeal to gays and other topics. Here are some excerpts:

When did you first feel love from the gay audience?
Well, come on, I toured with Cher and Cyndi Lauper in 1999 when I was in Wild Orchid. I love my gays so much, but I don’t think a lot of people know that, which bothers me sometimes. People don’t associate the Black Eyed Peas with the gay market, but our new record is a huge dance record, so people are starting to catch on. I want more gay love!

Gays don’t always know where they stand with straight guys in hip-hop. Do the other three Peas appreciate their gay fans?
They’re completely gay-friendly. Are you kidding me? Look at how they dress! [Laughs] Kanye West really did a great thing for hip-hop and made it very mixed and open.

Does Josh know he has a big gay following?
Oh, he knows, and he loves it. And I encourage it. I love his gay male fans because they have the same thoughts about him that I do.

How has your wedding earlier this year influenced your perspective on marriage equality?
I’m completely, 100% for gay marriage and equal rights. It’s crazy that everyone can’t get married. It’s unfair and ridiculous.

After you discussed past sexual experiences with women in an interview with The Sun in May, headlines everywhere read, “Fergie Admits She’s Bisexual!”
The funny thing is that I was very open and honest about that from the very beginning, and everyone was acting like it was some new trend. Go back four or five years, people, and you’ll see the same answer.

How did Josh handle the hoopla?
I’ve been very honest with him from the get-go. I think women are beautiful, I’ve had a lot of fun with women, and I’m not ashamed of it. The problem is that I also love a well-endowed man. But just because I enjoy women doesn’t mean I’m allowed to have affairs in my relationship. I learned through talking with my therapist that it is still cheating even if it’s with girls, so there is a rule there.

Josh Duhamel Loves His Stripper Pole

Hollywood actor Josh Duhamel was delighted to receive a stripper pole as a wedding present - and has spent more time using it than his wife Fergie.

The couple married in January and the exotic exercise pole was among their gifts from friends and family.

Duhamel admits his partner has refused to use the device since it was installed in their home - but he has been keen to practise his moves.

He tells Women's Health magazine, "I've played on the pole more than she has. If you know my wife, she's a perfectionist and won't get on it until she's good, so she wants to take a class first. So the pole is really just decorative at this point."

Josh Duhamel on Nude Photos: So What?

Josh Duhamel claims even his friends were skeptical when he told them he was going to be on the cover of Men's Health. "You're going to be on the cover of Men's Health?," he recalls them saying. "You?"

In fact, Duhamel, 36, now appearing in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, tells the fitness magazine that he wants to be remembered for his talent, not just his rugged good looks. And he laughs off those widely-seen nude photos taken of him by photographer Greg Gorman in 2000. "To me, it's funny at this point. Whatever. It's done," he says. "It was very cold in the studio, by the way."

The actor also talked up married life – he tied to the knot with Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas in January – even if it means having to constantly dodge the prying press. "We try to stay away from the places where the paparazzi hang out. Still, they're outside the house every morning."

Duhamel recently landed a voiceover gig for the Nickelodeon show Fanboy and Chum Chum and, coincidentally or not, he seems eager to start a family of his own. "I want to do good work, but having kids and a life outside of that is important," he tells the magazine. "If you don't have anybody around who loves you, then what's it all for? You're just lonely in the end."

How Josh Duhamel Knew Fergie Was the One

Head over heels for his wife, Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen star Josh Duhamel is feeling happy and reassured since their January 10th nuptials.

"It's almost like, 'Okay. It's just you and me. You and me against the world,' " Duhamel, 36, tells the July Redbook. "I know she's got my back, and I've got hers. And it's good."

Duhamel further reveals that he knew his new bride was the one for him, based on a little advice from his old man. "My dad once told me to find someone who sees things optimistically," he says. "It was just the consistency of how my wife dealt with things. I knew how she'd deal with adversity."

Duhamel also says that even though his wife's the musician, he always manages to get in a few notes for her. "Now, whether or not she likes it is another question," he says.
