Jonathan Rhys Meyers Held After Airport Brawl

Tudors star Jonathan Rhys Meyers was detained by French police on Saturday afternoon following an incident in which he allegedly assaulted an airport lounge employee while drunk, Agence France Presse reports.

The Irish actor, 31, was placed in custody for several hours for having a skirmish with bar employees and allegedly punching one at the Charles De Gaulle airport in Paris, according to reports.

The incident began when a bartender at the café area "Le Quotidien" in the departure area of the airport at terminal 2F refused to serve the actor, who appeared drunk, according to the news service. A shouting match developed between Rhys Meyers and the bar manager. Then when another bar employee tried to separate the pair, Rhys Meyers swung and punched the intervening waiter.

Police handcuffed the actor when placing him in custody, and sources told People that the actor remained in a sober lock-up area for three hours before being released.

The AFP reports that Rhys Meyers has been told to appear before the Correctional Tribunal in Bobigny in September to answer charges concerning, "voluntary violence, contempt, issuing death threats and assault," according to a judicial source.

The Tudors actor was previously arrested for public intoxication in November 2007 at the Dublin airport. In April of the same year he spent time in a rehab facility for treatment.

A rep for Rhys Meyers had no comment.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers: 'I Was Never In Rehab'

Jonathan Rhys Meyers has put an end to speculation he recently checked into rehab, insisting his party animal reputation is completely exaggerated.

The actor hit the headlines in February after it was alleged he had enrolled in a recovery centre in England to deal with an addiction to alcohol, following a previous stay in a recovery clinic in 2007.

He fuelled those rumours by subsequently cancelling scheduled appearances on U.S. TV at the start of April and failing to show up at two galas in Los Angeles and Dublin, Ireland, where he was due to collect awards for his work.

But the star has finally cleared up the reports, denying he was in rehab but admitting he did spend time with a counsellor in Middlesex, England.

He explains, "I just felt I needed time off and I didn't need to go to awards ceremonies. You can get slightly waylaid as an actor doing that sort of thing and I'm never that comfortable at them anyway."
And the Tudors star is adamant that reports of his outrageous behaviour are overblown, insisting fans would be shocked if they saw how dull his life is.

He says, "I live an incredibly low-key life. I think people would like to think I'm a hell of a lot naughtier than I am actually. I am actually quite a boring guy.

"I spent the last week and a half playing bloody golf. Me, Jonathan Rhys Meyers! If anyone saw me in those stupid golf clothes on the golf course, there would have been a different story written!"

Jonathan Rhys Meyers' Reign Ends as The Tudors Wraps

Jonathan Rhys Meyers will end his reign as Henry VIII on TV series The Tudors next year - U.S. network bosses have picked up the show for its fourth and final season.

Showtime network executives have decided to air Meyers' last scenes as the 16th century English monarch next spring.

The final 10 episodes will follow the monarch's tumultuous relationships with his last two wives: Catherine Howard, who was beheaded for treason, and Katherine Parr, who outlived the king, reports the New York Post.

Production is scheduled to begin this June in Dublin, Ireland.

Why The Tudors is Good for Mankind

Critics might argue there's just too much sex on The Tudors, Showtime's semi-true retelling of England's King Henry VIII.

And were the show set in reality, where the king wasn't a strapping fit fella, and the women he slept with skinny model types, they might be right: Who would want to see gap-toothed monsters getting it on every other scene? But creator Michael Hirst didn't make a show that's historically accurate. He made a show that people wanted to see.

Which explains why star Jonathan Rhys Meyers is treated like a sex object: the camera lingers on his torso, there are ass shots a plenty, and sex scenes are as much about showing bare breasted women as they are a grunting Meyers.

Rather than criticizing The Tudors for having too much sex, we should be celebrating producers' decision to finally glorify a dude.

Star Sighting:Jonathan Rhys Meyers is King of the Courts

The 31-year-old returned to Showtime this week in The Tudors. Talking about his acting on the show, the actor told the NY Daily News, “What I do is I isolate myself while I’m shooting it. I lived in a house on my own. It’s very Spartan, I don’t have luxuries. I go to the gym, all of this almost physical meditation. That’s what it takes, because I don’t look like Henry, so I have to do more to be Henry VIII.”

Jonathan Rhys Meyers Checks Into Rehab Again

Irish actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers has reportedly checked into rehab in a bid to kick his drink demons once and for all.

According to website Independent.ie, the Tudors star is attending a recovery centre in England to deal with his alcohol problem.

It would be Meyers' third attempt at rehab - in 2005, he spent time at Malibu, California's Promises Clinic in a bid to get sober, and he underwent further treatment in April 2007.

However, he suffered a setback in November 2007 when he was arrested at Dublin Airport by Irish police and charged with being drunk and in breach of the peace. It later emerged that Meyers' mother had died just days before his arrest.

The actor has previously spoken out about his battle with drinking, saying, "When I do (drink) I'm like Bambi. I'm all over the place, hopeless, like a 16-year-old kid. People notice."

And an insider on the Tudors show claims producers warned Meyers about his alcohol intake during filming on the programme's upcoming third season.

The source says, "He is one of the nicest guys in the world, he's a pleasure to work with. He has his demons, and he's trying to cope with them as best he can."

Jonathan Rhys Meyers: I'm Not a Romantic

He plays a royal with very sensual tastes in the Showtime hit The Tudors, but don't expect Jonathan Rhys Meyers to emulate Henry VIII's romantic prowess in real life.

I’m not a romantic guy at all,” says Rhys Meyers, 31.

But it's not all bad news for the Irish actor's female fans.

"It’s not that I don’t believe in romance,” the actor said Friday while promoting the new cologne HUGO Element at Macy's in New York City. “It’s that I don’t believe in dinner for two by the ocean, walking down the beach holding hands – that version of romance.

“I think I’m probably romantic, but I’m not outwardly romantic. I’m not a player.”

In fact, Rhys Meyers is quick to point out that the British royal wasn't much of a player either. “Well, Henry was actually quite a prude," he says, "I don’t think he’d be remembered as sexy in history."

But the series is all about "putting a modern-day take on" history, he adds.

In fact, the third season, which premieres April 15, "is better than seasons one and two put together," says Rhys Meyers. "I go through three wives this season!”
