Writing Scott Evans character of Oliver Fish out of One Life to Live has got to be one of the biggest bonehead decisions in the history of daytime soaps.
The character had been on such a journey and had managed to continue to do his job as a police officer as he came to terms with his sexuality.
The exit of Fish and boyfriend Kyle Lewis (Brett Claywell) still makes many fans of One Live to Live absolutely furious.
But Evans has moved on.
AfterElton.com’s Gays of Our Lives column reports that the actor will appear in the gay indie film The One, which will also star hunky Jon Prescott as Evans’ love interest.
Prescott recently appeared on As the World Turns where he played Mike Kasnoff and One Life to Live where he played persistently shirtless pool boy Chad. The movie is described as “a quick-witted, tender romantic dramedy about a young, successful Manhattan investment banker who lives the charmed Upper East Side Manhattan life about to marry the woman of his dreams who, a month before his wedding, meets and unexpectedly falls in love with a charismatic man from his past.”
Evans and Prescott will reportedly have three love scenes. Hot!
Here is the first promo picture for the upcoming film Role/Play which will star real-life couple Matthew Montgomery and Steve Callahan (pictured).
The film is about a recently outed soap opera actor (Callahan) who crosses paths with a recently divorced gay marriage activist (Montgomery). Their relationship forces them to confront the price of fame and the fickle nature of celebrity within the gay community.
The Guest House Films production is being written and directed Rob Williams whose most recent hit was Make the Yuletide Gay. Role/Play is scheduled to begin production in May and has already been booked at multiple gay film festivals across the country; screenings will be announced soon.
“In my mind, there were no actors more perfectly suited to play these roles than Matthew and Steve,” says Williams, co-founder of Guest House Films. “Not only do they each have a track record of putting out quality performances time and time again, but their off-screen chemistry will certainly translate into on-screen fireworks.”
Although several gay scenes have featured already in Bollywood productions, an upcoming film is being touted as India's answer to Brokeback Mountain.
Promotional posters for Dunno Y . . . Na Jaane Kyun were released this week showing two topless men embracing.
Few details about the film have been disclosed but it is expected to be a high-profile release. The director is Anil Sharma, who is well-known in India's film industry.
He told The Times of India: "The only thing I was particular about was that this character should not come across as a caricature or just as an object of mockery. I am truly happy with what I have chosen."
The film will be in English with subtitles, something which may help it past censors.
Actor Kapil Sharma will play a would-be gay model who begins a sexual relationship with another man. It is not yet clear whether this will be a romantic relationship, as reports say the central character is forced to "compromise" his morals to further his career.
Bollywood has rarely mentioned homosexuality in the past and even heterosexual kisses are still unusual.
But since the Indian capital Delhi legalised homosexuality last year, homosexuality is very slowly becoming more accepted in culture.
A recent film, Dostana, showed two men pretending to be gay in order to win over a female love interest, but Dunno Y . . . Na Jaane Kyun is the first big release to tackle the issue of homosexuality seriously.
One upcoming small film, I Am, depicts male prostitutes being harassed by homophobic police officers. It is currently being shown at the Rotterdam Film Festival.
Dunno Y . . . Na Jaane Kyun is expected to be released in May.
