Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau have overcome an onslaught of poor reviews for Couple's Retreat after the comedy debuted at the top spot of the US box office this weekend.
The film, about four couples who seek relationship counselling at an island therapy resort, was panned by critics - who called the movie "offensive" and "tedious".
However, the funnymen charmed American audiences, raking in box office sales of $35.3 million.
Meanwhile, Woody Harrelson's horror comedy Zombieland was knocked to second place with $15 million in its second week.
Family favourite Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs followed at number three with $12 million in earnings, rounding its four-week total to $96.3 million.
Rounding out the top five were the Toy Story 3-D double feature at number four and Paranormal Activity in fifth, earning $7.7 million and $7.1 million respectively.
Vince Vaughn, Jason Bateman, Jon Favreau, Malin Akerman, Kristin Davis, Kristen Bell and Faizon Love star in the new Universal Pictures' comedy, Couples Retreat.
Based on an original idea of Vaughn's, the comedy follows four Midwestern couples who embark on a journey to a tropical island resort. While one of the couples is there to work on their marriage, the other three set out to jet ski, spa and enjoy some fun in the sun.
They soon discover that participation in the resort's couples therapy is not optional. Suddenly, their group-rate vacation comes at a price. What follows is a hilarious look at real world problems faced by all couples.
The film also stars Kali Hawk and Jean Reno. It also features South Floridian Carlos Ponce as a Speedo wearing Yoga instructor with a thick accept, but you will not be focusing on his talking. There are other distractions from watching Carlos in his hysterical role as Salvadore.

This is definitely not an Oscar winner quality of movie. It's just a truly funny, must watch movie with beautiful scenery.
