Chynna Phillips Files & Withdraws Divorce Papers

Chynna Phillips has withdrawn divorce papers she filed against husband Billy Baldwin.

"They're not getting divorced," says her manager Lizzie Grubman. "She filed and withdrew. They are going to work out their issues."

Phillips, 42, filed on Friday in Santa Barbara before having a change of heart. She has been married to the 47-year-old actor, with whom she has three children, since September of 1995.

Phillips left a facility – where she was receiving treatment for anxiety – February 19th, just a week after checking herself in. "Chynna's been going through a very tough time, struggling personally," a source close to the couple stated. "Billy and Chynna have an incredibly deep and profound love."

The insider says they're set on staying married.

"Like any couple, they have ups and downs," the source says. "They're thoroughly committed to working on whatever issues they may have and they're confident things will be better than ever."

Mackenzie Phillips's Sisters Speak Out About Incest Claim

Her sisters are upset, her stepmother calls her a liar, but Mackenzie Phillips isn't backing down from revelations that she had a long-term sexual relationship with her father – and hopes she can be the public face of an issue that she says gets little of the attention it deserves.

"If I've started a national dialogue that's going to help people face these issues, then I'm forever grateful," Phillips, 49, said Friday via satellite during a live broadcast of The Oprah Winfrey Show.

The former One Day at a Time star, who revealed her shocking family secret in a new memoir, High on Arrival, appeared for the second time this week on Oprah, this time to face doubts from within her own family about her relationship with her father, the founder of the 60s band The Mamas and the Papas.

'Untrue'

On Friday's show, Winfrey read comments made by John's former wife, Michelle, also a member of the band and Mackenzie's stepmother. "I have every reason to believe it's untrue," Michelle Phillips said, adding that Mackenzie has a history of mental illness and drug abuse.

Mackenzie didn't take the accusation sitting down, although she did admit to a long history of drug use. "When Michelle found out I was writing the book, she vowed to do everything she could to discredit me ... She's either protecting the Mamas and Papas brand or is having a textbook reaction: She's embarrassed, sweep it under the carpet, protect the abuser," Phillips told Winfrey. "It seems so unkind and ungenerous to lash out in this way."

Angry Reaction

Mackenzie's half-sister, Chynna Phillips, appeared live with Winfrey and explained that her mother, Michelle, is angry. "It's not something that my mom wants plastered all over the papers," she said.

Chynna, 41, admitted that she, too, shared some of that sentiment. "Am I exceedingly joyful that my family secret that I told maybe my therapist, my husband and my very best friend in the whole word [is now public]? No."

Coming Clean

Nevertheless, she said, she has known about the situation for 12 years and, while she wasn't certain that her sister could be entirely accurate about the details, believed that the two were sexually involved for a decade. "I was completely stunned," she said when Mackenzie shared the secret. "I walked around in a comatose state for about 10 days."

Another sibling, Bijou Phillips, has released the following statement: "When I was 13, Mackenzie told me that she had a consensual sexual relationship with our father. This news was confusing and scary, as I lived alone with my father since I was 3, I didn’t know what to believe and it didn’t help that shortly there after Mackenzie told me it didn't happen .... "

"I understand Mackenzie's need to come clean with a history she feels will help others, but it's devastating to have the world watch as we try and mend broken fences, especially when the man in question isn't here to defend himself."

Mackenzie Phillips wants the world to know her father, 1960s musician John Phillips, "was not a bad man, he was a very sick man," burdened by the legacy of his own troubled childhood. Yet the sexual relationship between the two of them that she writes about in her explosive new memoir, High on Arrival, began when her dad raped her at age 19 and was certainly not an "affair," as some media have categorized it.

"He didn't set out to hurt me," the former One Day at a Time child star, 49, told Meredith Vieira on Thursday's Today show. "He did the best with what he had. He was a damaged guy."

While "Papa John" of the Mamas and the Papas group died in 2001 from the effects of alcohol and drug abuse, surviving members of his family – particularly his ex-wife Michelle Phillips – have voiced doubts about Mackenzie's claims in her new memoir, High on Arrival.

"Mackenzie has a lot of mental illness. She's had a needle stuck up her arm for 35 years. She was arrested for heroin and coke just recently. She did Celebrity Rehab and now she writes a book. The whole thing is timed," Michelle Phillips, 65, said in a quote published by Roger Friedman of Showbiz411.com.

"Mackenzie is jealous of her siblings, who have accomplished a lot and did not become drug addicts," Michelle told NBC.

But Mackenzie's half sister, Chynna Phillips, backs up the author, saying that Mackenzie's tale of drug-fueled incest is too incredible to have been imagined.

Another sister, Bijou, and her brother, Tamerlane, have shown measured support, according to NBC.

On Today Mackenzie said that as far as she knew her sisters were not abused by John Phillips. As for the family reaction to her revelations, "If you open a textbook on incest you can see a picture of the Phillips family," Phillips said. "We are behaving in a typical way. The instinct is to say it’s not true. The instinct is to deny. The instinct is to brush it under the table. The instinct is to protect the abuser.

"I love my family," she continued. "I understand this is very difficult, and to be revealed on a public level such as this makes it ever more difficult, and my heart goes out to them. I know that, God willing, as a family we will all be stronger when this dies down."
