Duffy Wins Big at the Brit Awards
It was singer Duffy's night at the Britain's top music awards Wednesday as she took home three honors, including best album for Rockferry, at the 2009 Brit Awards."I cannot tell you what this means after five years," the Welsh-born songstress told the crowd at London's Earl's Court arena.
Duffy also won awards for best female and best breakthrough artist. She topped off the night with a barnstorming version of her song, "Warwick Avenue," backed by a small orchestra. She found herself onstage so often she even quipped, "I'm starting to recognize your faces," to those around her.
At the awards – the British version of the Grammys – Kings of Leon were tapped as best international group, and their Only by the Night won for best international album.
Kanye West was named best international male. He wasn't at the show but said in a video message: "Barack is the best inter-racial male. I am fine with being the best international male."
"I Kissed a Girl" singer Katy Perry took home the prize for best international female.
To kick off the show at London's Earl's Court arena, U2 showcased their new single, "Get On Your Boots" from their upcoming album.
The Pet Shop Boys, who were honored with the outstanding contribution to music award, wrapped up the night by performing a medley of their hits – accompanied by Brandon Flowers from The Killers and Lady Gaga.
